The Austrian-born Tennis player is 28 years old. He is from a family of four consisting of himself, his parents, and his brother. His parents are Wolfgang and Karin Thiem. His brother’s name is Moritz Thiem. His parents are tennis coaches, and his brother also plays tennis professionally.

Dominic Thiem has been playing tennis since he was six but only went pro in 2011. Within his 22 years of playing tennis, he has reached numerous landmarks in his career. In his junior year, he got to the No. 2 spot in the world. He finished second in the boys’ 2011 French Open competition and took first place in the Orange Bowl organized in 2011.

 In 2014, he made his professional debut and entered the top 100. At the French Open de Nice Cote d’Azur competition organized in 2015, Dominic got his first Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) title. In 2019, at the Indian Wells Masters, he won his first Masters 1000 title.

Nicolas best career ranking is No. 9 in the world. Nicolas started training with the 28year old a month before the Indian Wells Masters. He ended up winning his first Masters 1000 title thereafter.

 El Vampiro also guided Dominic to his third ATP title and Austrian Open Kitzbuhel win. They proceeded to Asia, the China Open. He got his fourth ATP title and the fifteenth title in his entire career. The last title Nicolas led his Dominic to in 2019 was at the Vienna Open. That was the sixteenth title.

 The following year, Dominic reached a career-high ranking of No. 3 globally. After that, at the US Open, he emerged as the champion, defeating Alexander Zverev. No other player born in the 1990s had ever achieved the feat of winning a major title. He became the first male player to do so. How remarkable! He also proceeded to win his first Grand Slam.

The year 2021 was not exactly a smooth one for Nicolas and Dominic. He struggled a lot with form and battled knee and wrist injuries. In 2022, he had quite the comeback. He won the Salzburg Open and Swedish Open.

Dominic Thiem’s Past Coaches

Dominic Thiem had only worked with just one coach in his entire career before Nicolas Massu. They worked for a total of fifteen years.

Gunter Bresnik

Gunter coached Dominic from 2002-2019. The reason for their split was not explicitly revealed, but some comments made by both parties later revealed the contract didn’t end on a good note.

Gunter, currently 61 years has been coaching for the past 35 years and is happily married. He is from Vienna and has four daughters. Gunter claims his coaching career “happened by accident, while studying medicine.” The first player he ever coached was Horst Skoff.

After that, he worked with tennis professionals like Henri Leconte, Ernests Gulbis, Patrick Baur, Patrick McEnroe, Stefan Koubek, and many more. He worked as the director of the Austrian Tennis Association from 1998-1999. He also owns an international Tennis Academy in Vienna.

Gunter led Dominic to his first ever International Tennis Federation (ITF) play in 2008. He ranked No. 2 in the world in both singles and doubles by January 2011. Gunter also guided him to his first title as a junior at the Preveza tournament held in Greece. He also led him to victories in the Eddie Herr International Junior Tennis Championships, the Orange Bowl, and the Yucatan Cup, all as a junior player.

They also worked together to get Dominic’s first ATP win in Vienna. He climbed into the top 100 in 2014, and by the end of the year, he ranked No. 39, making him the youngest player to enter the top 50. After that, he achieved the greatest win in his entire career when he beat Stan Wawrinka, the world No. 3 at the time, in three sets.

Gunter led his trainee to three ATP titles in 2015. The first at the Nottingham Open, the second at the Croatia Open Umag, and the third at the Swiss Open Gstaad. By the end of 2015, he reached a career-high ranking of No. 18 in the world.

The following year, he won four titles. He won at Acapulco, the ATP 500 level. He won at the Argentina Open and at the Mexican Open. He also won at the Open de Nice Cote d’Azur. He ended the year as World No. 8.

In 2017, while still with Gunter, Dominic won the Masters 1000 tournaments and rose to World No. 4. Gunter no doubt did his best in training Dominic Thiem and gradually helping him advance in his career until their separation.
