Here we show you how Didier Deschamps has improved France since his arrival at the national team

Didier Deschamps has extended his contract to remain as France’s head coach until June 2026. He will be in charge for the 2024 Euros and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In 2012, Deschamps replaced Laurent Blanc and was appointed the head coach of France national team. He helped France to reach the 2016 Euro final before leading them to their second World Cup trophy in 20 years in Russia in 2018.

In this process, he became only the third footballer after Mario Zagallo and Franz Beckenbauer to win the World Cup as both a player and a manager. Moreover, he was only the second captain after Beckenbauer to do so.

The 54-year-old coach said: “I am going to announce something which for me is an immense pleasure, and that is that the president has decided to extend (my contract) until 2026,” Deschamps said at the FFF general assembly.

“I thank the president for his constant support and his continued confidence in me,” Deschamps added. “It is essential for the France team to function well.”

Didier’s contract renewal means that Zinedine Zidane’s dream of becoming France’s manager has potentially shattered. There were reports that Benzema could have made a return to French national team if Zidane was appointed.

But it looks like Benzema’s international career is officially over and we might never see him and Zidane together ever again.
