Chelsea Issues Run Deep

For too long as Chelsea fans we blame the manager/coach for getting the tactics wrong. I believe the issues run far deeper than the man who picks the starting XI.

It can be no coincidence that the last 3 managers have had issues with this crop of players.

José Mourinho claimed he had rats in the camp during his second spell in charge.

Antonio Conte had nothing but problems getting these same players to fight for the Chelsea shirt during his second season at the helm.

And all too quickly Maurizio Sarri has found out how much power these players have at Chelsea.

Granted I feel Sarri needs to be alot more flexible in his tactics and philosophy, however when you actually watch a Chelsea match it always leaves you questioning where the players desire is.

I think more and more Chelsea Fans are now coming around to the idea that Eden Hazard needs to leave the Club. He’s been a great servant, but ultimately he is alot of the reason Sarriball doesn’t work.

He doesn’t want to press the ball, he doesn’t want to play as a winger or a striker.

So where do you play him?

Do you drop him to the bench?

Hazard is now too much of a luxury in this current Chelsea team. If he doesn’t turn up 100% neither does the rest of the team.

His constant flirting with Real Madrid can’t be good for the dressing room.

Everyone knows he wants to go so let him go and reinvest in the squad and especially Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The last true investment this Chelsea squad had was when José Mourinho returned to the club.

We saw signings such as Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa, Juan Cuadrado and Filipe Luiś.

The big thing about those signings are that they were what the manager wanted.

Fast forward through the Conte rein of continued complaining of not getting what he wanted or needed for the squad.

We have changed to a new brand of football with this same unfaithful crop of players.

As fans did we really believe the mindset of these Frauds would change.

Gone are the days when we had leaders in the changing room, players willing to fight for the shirt or even to remotely try and grind out a result when playing poorly.

We need to move alot of players out of the club and buy quality to even think about competing with even the likes of Spurs let alone Manchester City and Liverpool.

I’d be very surprised if Sarri makes it out of this season with a job, But I hope he does and gets backed by the board next season.

Move Hazard, Alonso, Drinkwater, Cahill, Luiz, Willian, Pedro etc on to new clubs and give youth a chance and add some quality signings and we may see this player power trend change.
