Arsenal 2 – Chelsea 0
Chelsea lost 2-0 at Arsenal on Saturday in the Premier League.
Will the Blues finish in the top four this season?
Chelsea are fourth in the league, just three points ahead of Arsenal.
Manchester United are also three points behind the Pensioners after winning their seventh match in a row.
Chelsea were poor at Arsenal. In a telling stat, Chelsea’s first shot on target arrived in the 82nd minute.
By that point the game was long gone for the Blues, as Arsenal wrapped up the points with two goals in the first forty-five.
Alexandre Lacazette broke the deadlock, before Laurent Koscielny scored a second with his shoulder.
Marcos Alonso vs Ainsley Maitland-Niles
Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso courted attention for the wrong reasons against Arsenal.
Should Alonso have been sent off against the Gunners?
During the second half, Alonso appeared to whack Ainsley Maitland-Niles in the face during a corner.
As Chelsea looked to get back into the match, Alonso and Maitland-Niles started grappling in the box as the ball was delivered into the mixer.
After the pair got physical with one-another, Alonso appeared to strike out at Maitland-Niles.
Undoubtedly the Chelsea left-back touched Maitland-Niles’s face.
The Arsenal sub went down appearing to hold his eye.
Arsenal’s players protested, but referee Anthony Taylor didn’t react.
Social media reaction
As Alonso avoided punishment at the time, will the Chelsea defender be hit with retrospective action?
Even some Chelsea fans hope that will happen.
@FA surely marcos alonso should be banned for eye gouging? I remember one of our players got a 6 game ban for the sam incident! Please be consistent! Thanks

If Marcos Alonso doesn’t get some sort of retrospective ban after that push in the face then the FA is just a complete joke tbh
