Newcastle start moving in the summer transfer market
It has been another rough summer for Newcastle in the transfer market.
Newcastle’s purchase of Michael Owen for 16 million pounds ahead of the 2005/2006 season remains their record signing.
This looks unlikely to change with a continuing stand-off between Rafa Benitez and Newcastle owner Mike Ashley.

According to reports, Ashley would only countenance a summer spending spree if Rafa Benitez signs a new long-term contract.
As it stands, Newcastle have signed goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, brought in Ki-Sung Yeung on a free and also loaned Kennedy from Chelsea.
Newcastle agree fee for Yoshinori Muto with Mainz
On Wednesday there were rumours that Newcastle were closing in on Swiss defender Fabian Schar.
Today, there are confirmations from reliable sources that Newcastle have agreed a fee with Mainz for striker Yoshinori Muto.
The 26-year-old has spent three seasons at Mainz in the Bundesliga. In 2017/2018, Muto claimed eight goals in 27 appearances.

Is Yoshinori Muto Newcastle’s major striker signing?
It is reported that the fee for Muto is around 9.5 million pounds.
Compared to the fees and players some Premier League clubs are spending, this feels like an underwhelming transfer.
But, Muto has proved himself in the Bundesliga and could well turn out to be a canny signing.
Newcastle have also been linked with Salomon Rondon and Tammy Abraham in this transfer window.
