Aston Villa’s financial crisis deepens as the club is sued

Aston Villa are in financial crisis

It’s worrying times for Aston Villa and their fans.

Aston Villa will once again be playing Championship football next season.

Steve Bruce’s side reached the playoff final a few weeks ago. But Aston Villa lost 1-0 to Fulham in the showpiece at Wembley, as the Cottagers won promotion to the Premier League.

The impact of Aston Villa’s playoff final defeat has already proven to be significant.

Indeed, it’s recently been confirmed that Aston Villa owe 11 million pounds in transfer fees.

It’s unclear how the Villains plan to pay off their debts as they have serious cash-flow problems.

Central to those problems is the fact that Villa’s owner, Tony Xia, is currently unable to take his money out of China to help Aston Villa.

Aston Villa are sued

On Tuesday the Times have revealed that Aston Villa’s financial problems could get worse before they get better.

That’s after a former employee has sued the club after being given the heave-ho. The Times report:

Keith Wyness has launched legal action against troubled Aston Villa alleging constructive dismissal from his role as chief executive.

Wyness has filed papers against Villa, who could be faced with a further bill of up to £6 million, adding to the mounting financial crisis facing Tony Xia, their beleaguered owner.

If Wyness is successful in his claim, Aston Villa’s debts could rise to 17 million pounds.

How will Aston Villa manage their debt?

Considering Villa’s financial problems, it’s no surprise to learn that every single player in Aston Villa’s squad is up for sale.

John Terry, of course, has already left the club after the Fulham game.

But who else may be leaving Villa Park? The Times report:

That could lead to the sale of Jack Grealish, the midfield player, and James Chester, the Wales defender.

Steve Bruce, the manager, is anxious to learn details of the plans for next season but it is not believed he is likely to resign or be sacked in the immediate future.
