2018 Big3 Basketball Week 1 Review and Scores

The Press Box Sports 2018 Big3 Basketball Week 1 Review and Scores

Big3 Basketball kicked off their 2018 season Friday night in Houston, TX at the Toyota Center. All eight teams were geared towards a positive start in their run for the Big3 Championship. There were a lot of new faces taking the court this season as well as a couple of new coaches. The first game had everyone on the edge of their seats. The final three games were blowouts. However, those blowouts sort of went a different direction than last season. Here are the results of the first week of the 2018 Big3 Basketball Season.

3 Headed Monsters 50, Ghost Ballers 48

2017 Big3 MVP, Rashard Lewis didn’t steal the show like he did all of last season. Reggie Evans led the 3 Headed Monsters in his double-double effort with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf added 11 points and newcomer Qyntel Woods added 10 points. Rashard Lewis finished with eight points. The Ghost Ballers had a couple of surprises of their own with Ricky Davis and Carlos Boozer. Davis Scored a game-high 21 points with Boozer adding 15 points. The game went back-and-forth a lot with the 3 Headed Monsters taking a 25-20 lead into halftime. Boozer hit a three late in the game to give the Ghost Ballers a 44-43 lead, but the game would stay tight. With the score 48-48, Abdul-Rauf sunk the game-winning shot. The 3 Headed Monsters showing early on that they are a top contender again this year. The Ghost Ballers may have lost, but this game shows how tough they’ll be for the rest of the season.

3’s Company 51, Killer 3’s 30

The Killer 3’s scored only seven points in the first half which won’t sit well with Charles Oakley. They finally came to life after halftime, but the damage was already done. 3’s Company was led by Baron Davis who scored 17 points and 9 rebounds. Davis also tied a Big3 game record after sinking two 4-pointers in the game. Drew Gooden and Andre Emmett added 10 points each with Emmett also bringing down 9 boards along with hitting the game-winning shot. Jason Maxiell also had 9 rebounds and added 7 points to the victory. 3’s Company took advantage of outrebounding the Killer 3’s 30-19 which gave them many second-chance opportunities. Metta World Peace scored 12 points to lead the Killer 3’s and Stephen Jackson added 10 points. A slow start to the game doomed the Killer 3’s and 3’s Company is finding their groove early with some new guys.

Power 51, Ball Hogs 31

Nancy Lieberman took home her first win as a Big3 Basketball coach. Power’s new captain Corey Maggette showed his true leadership on the court and scored 17 points to go with 9 rebounds. Cuttino Mobley scored 12 points and sealed the deal for Power. Glen Davis scored 11 points and Quentin Richardson was solid inside with 8 rebounds. DeShawn Stevenson led the Ball Hogs with 17 points but didn’t get much help on offense from anyone else. Andre Owens scored 8 points and no other player scored more than four points. Power was down early in the first half and went on an 11-0 run that gave them a two-point lead at halftime. With the score 39-31, Power then went on a 12-0 run to win big against a Ball Hogs team that could only put up seven points in the second half.

Tri-State 51, Trilogy 34

This was a game that was expected to be a blowout. The only problem was that no one expected Tri-State to win big like they did. Dr. J had his team firing on all cylinders out of the gate. David Hawkins led Tri-State with 19 points and Jermaine O’Neal had an impressive debut with 12 points of his own. Nate Robinson hit the game-winner and added 10 points to the cause. Rashad McCants and James White combined for 27 points. The rest of the team struggled throughout the entire game. Trilogy was stale on offense and non existent on defense. Tri-State proved that they are a team to watch and don’t count them out. Trilogy has to go back to the drawing board and figure out what it’s going to take to get back on track.

Big3 Basketball will be in the Windy City next week in Chicago, IL at the United Center.
