The Buffalo Bills send Cordy Glenn and their No. 21 pick to the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for the No. 12 overall pick. The trade also includes Cincinnati receiving Buffalo’s fifth-round pick and the Bills getting the Bengal’s sixth-round pick. Trading Cordy Glenn will save the Bills $11.25 million in cap space. Money that they can spend in an already active off season. The Bills signed Chris Ivory and Vontae Davis recently. Ivory adds depth to the ground game, while Davis adds a key defender in the secondary. The Bengals are happy to take the cap hit for a key offensive lineman. They need help on the offensive line.

Buffalo took Glenn in the 2nd round of the 2012 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-5, 345lb. lineman became an instant starter with the Bills. In six NFL seasons, Glenn has played in 78 games and started 77 of them. An ankle injury cut Glenn’s 2017 season short. He played for the Georgia Bulldogs in college, where he mostly at the guard position.
How this trade helps the Cincinnati Bengals
Cincinnati ranked at the bottom in the NFL in rushing last season. The Bengals averaged just 3.6 yards per carry. With three running backs with a lot of upside, Cincinnati had to make changes on the o-line. Joe Mixon, Giovani Bernard, and Jeremy Hill makes up a unit who should be far from last in rushing in the NFL. The lack of an efficient ground game causes problems in the passing game. Glenn does a great job of opening running lanes on the left side of the offense. He’s also a good pass protector. His ability to pick up on blitzes and stunts gives him an advantage. Establishing a ground game is top priority for the Bengals and would open up the passing game for Andy Dalton. So beefing up the line is a big priority for this coming season.
How this trade helps the Buffalo Bills
The earlier first-round pick could be put to good use by the Bills. After trading Tyrod Taylor to the Browns, Buffalo is in the market for a quarterback. Nathan Peterman doesn’t look likely to take over as the starter. So expect the Bills to take a look at drafting a quarterback. If someone like Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, or Baker Mayfield falls into Buffalo’s spot, they’ll snatch them up. If things get crazy and Quarterbacks go quick, Mason Rudolph can also be an option. The Bills may use the pick from the Bengals as leverage to get a higher pick in the draft. They still have the No. 22 pick they acquired from the Kansas City Chiefs last year. Rookie Dion Dawkins started in place of Glenn in his absence and the coaching staff like what they seen. So trading him for the right deal makes sense. Buffalo loses some depth on the offensive line, but they gain the possibility of strengthening other positions.
The two teams continue to develop a strong relationship since last season. After the Bengals beat the Ravens in week 17 to send the Bills to the NFL playoffs, fans showed their gratitude. Buffalo fans reportedly donated around $350,000 to the Andy and Jordan Dalton foundation.
