Once Arsenal target Ruben Neves to get new contract at Wolves

Arsenal have had a prolonged hunt to bring in a midfielder to enhance depth and quality in the middle of the park and there was a time when Ruben Neves was considered the prime target to do so. There were reports in June that the Gunners would be willing to put a club-record £75m on the table to land the Portuguese. Of course, thouse reports didn’t back through and no such deal came to its cessation.

However, if Arsenal are to come back on to the interrogation table for Ruben, things are about to get scads difficult as according to the reports by The Times, Wolves have put their foot on the gas looking to tie Neves down to a new contract at Molineux Stadium. The report also goes on to claim that Wolves’ proposed offer of £100k-a-week is nearly double to his current wages.

Ruben Neves has taken big strides owing to his position at Wolves, with Bruno Lage trusting him with the captain’s armband following Conor Coady’s move to Everton. Lage is said to be desperate to keep hold of him and considers the Portuguese as an integral part of his squad.

Arsenal, on the other hand, are looking elsewhere already as they look to further strengthen the squad before August’s summer window deadline. You’d think if Mikel Arteta would really have been after Neves, Edu & his team would have got him in the building already and for Neves, the contract shows how much he is valued at Wolves.
