Granit Xhaka ruled out for ‘three months’ after injury against Spurs

Granit Xhaka will be out of action for three months after sustaining a significant injury to his medial knee ligament in a 3-1 victory against North London rivals Spurs.

The Swiss midfielder had just completed serving his three-match ban following a red card against Man City. He was in the starting line-up against Spurs but unfortunately in the 82nd minute, the midfielder had to be taken off after a tough challenge from Spurs winger Lucas Moura.

After the match, the midfielder left the stadium with a knee brace on the right knee. Spaniard Mikel Arteta also mentioned in his post-match interview that Xhaka’s injury doesn’t look very positive.

Arsenal’s official website confirmed that “A specialist consultation took place in London on Tuesday evening which has determined that Granit does not require surgery. Granit’s recovery and rehabilitation programme will start immediately and we are aiming for him to be back in action in approximately three months.”

Xhaka’s absence for three months will open the door for new signing Albert Sambi Lokonga, who has been impressive so far. Arteta also has Mohammed Elneny and Ainsley Maitland Niles as other midfield options. Both the midfielders are expected to get more playing time with Xhaka injured.
