Hector Bellerin aims sly dig at Arsenal after completing season-long loan to Real Betis

Hector Bellerin completed a season-long loan move from Arsenal to Real Betis on transfer deadline day. The right-back moved back to his native in a bid to attain regular football. Bellerin’s move in the summer came following another difficult campaign at the Emirates. In fact, multiple reports claimed that he was hotly tipped for a permanent exit.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was believed to be looking into the market for reinforcements to the right side of his backline. Eventually, Arsenal managed to bring in Japanese international Takehiro Tomiyasu from Bologna, which signaled the green light for Bellerin’s loan move to Real Betis.

Although Bellerin is potentially expected to stay at Betis for just one year, he couldn’t resist taking a sly dig at his parent club upon leaving North London. The 26-year-old found it difficult to nail down a starting berth under Arteta but claimed that he was leaving to win trophies at Betis.

While speaking to reporters ahead of Real Betis’ Europa League encounter against Celtic on Thursday, Bellerin said that he wasn’t interested in vacationing upon arriving back in Spain.

The on-loan Arsenal star explained, “If we can dominate the ball against Celtic, we can get the win we need. I’ve left Arsenal to win things with Real Betis. I’m not here for a holiday.”

To play against Celtic will be special because they’re such a big club with a big history. Celtic will be a tough rival but I’m optimistic. At Betis, we’re obliged to get the three points. We have already watched the derby against Rangers and that result puts pressure on Celtic.” he added.

Hector Bellerin has been an Arsenal player for ten years since joining their academy in 2011.  He initially spent his early years as a youth player at Barcelona.

The Spaniard made his senior debut for the Gunners during the 2013-14 season under Arsene Wenger’s reign. He was sent out on loan to Watford at the start of that campaign but was recalled after injuries to key players at the club. Bellerin has now played just short of 25o times in total for the London outfit. He is a three-time FA Cup winner with the Gunners.
