The teams involved are fellow title contenders Liverpool and our neighbors on the red side of the city, Manchester United. After a complicated game at the Etihad two weeks ago maintained a one point difference the two teams, the onus lies on Manchester United to potentially tilt the race in City’s favour. Recent games between the two sides have largely been in Liverpool’s favor but on the back of a stellar 3-2 victory over Norwich on Saturday, the tie may be more even. The key to defeating Liverpool lies in the ability of United’s backline to effectively key the dynamic front three from getting a sniff at the goal. The goal threat possessed by Liverpool’s frontline and the team in general has seen them score a league high 79 goals winning 80% of their home games.
All in all, a derby game against Arch Rivals, does not rely on form giving our arch rivals; United, a fighting chance to effectively delivery a damaging blow to Liverpool’s title hopes further giving us a chance to open up a four point gap between us and the Reds of Merseyside in our game at home to Brighton 24 hours later.
