UFC 223: Michael Chiesa vs Anthony Pettis cancelled after Conor McGregor and Artem Lobov rampage

MICHAEL CHIESA'S fight with Anthony Pettis has been CANNED after Conor McGregor's attack on a bus in New York.

The 30-year-old suffered injuries to his face from broken glass after the bus that he was on leaving the UFC 223 media event in Brooklyn was attacked.

The decision was made by the New York State Athletic Commission to scratch from the card altogether with Chiesa in hospital with cuts to his face.

During the UFC 223 press day, McGregor, his team-mate Artem Lobov and members of their team rampaged in the backstage area of Barclays Center.

A furious Dana White said: "They stormed the building got down to the loading docks where the fighters were getting on the busses and started to attack the busses throwing trash cans and dollies, broke one of the windows and cut Michael Chiesa really bad.

"He had cut his head, he had cut his face, he’s at the hospital now.

"This is the most disgusting thing that has ever happened in the history of the company."

White said that McGregor’s Teammate Artem Lobov is also off the card after his involvement in the incident. Lobov was due to fight Alex Caceres.

The UFC issued a statement clarifying the fight cancellations for this weekend's UFC 223 card in Brooklyn.

Two of the three fight’s cancelled are a direct result of McGregor’s involvement in the aftermath of the media day.

UFC Statement: "Thursday afternoon, following the UFC 223 media day at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, an incident in the facility injured two athletes on Saturday's card, forcing them to be pulled from the event.

"Lightweight Michael Chiesa, who received several facial cuts, was deemed unfit to fight by the New York State Athletic "Commission and the UFC medical team, and he was removed from his bout against Anthony Pettis.

"Flyweight Ray Borg, who was scheduled to face Brandon Moreno, was deemed unfit to fight as well due to multiple cornea abrasions.

"Also removed from the card was the featherweight bout between Artem Lobov and Alex Caceres due to Lobov's involvement in the incident.

"UFC 223 will proceed as scheduled with 10 bouts."
