Manchester United overcame self-inflicted setbacks in their FA Cup quarter-final clash against Liverpool at Anfield to book a date with Coventry City.

The Red Devils came back twice in the game to win it 4-3 late in the second half of extra time after the game ended 2-2 in normal time. It was the bravery of Erik Ten Hag that paid off, as youngster Amad Diallo scored the winner at the death.

Liverpool had Mohammed Salah back in the lineup after recovering from injury, and he was instrumental to Liverpool’s near success on the night, but it was going to be United’s day. Ten Hag believes it could be the turning point in United’s season as they now have a realistic chance of landing a trophy this season.

"This could be the moment," Ten Hag said after the win. "The team has the belief and energy to do amazing things. When you beat Liverpool, you can beat any opponent." It was a great result for a troubled United side that needs to sit up to finish in the Champions League spot in the EPL.

Scott McTominay opened the scoring on the day with a close-range finish after Kelleher had saved from Rashford; Liverpool leveled through Alexis Mac Allister; and the Egyptian king, Mohammed Salah, sent Liverpool in front before the break.

It was looking like a Liverpool day until Ten Hag sent on Antony. The Brazilian turned in the box and curled one in to send the game into extra time. Liverpool scored again to make it 3-2, but Marcus Rashford leveled after missing a series of chances, and Amad scored the winner in the last minute of extra time.

"The first 35 minutes, we showed again that the future of this team is very bright," he said. "There is huge potential. We have to get it out and get consistency. The first 35 minutes were very pleasing. They are great characters and the determination we see again.

"This season we have so many setbacks, and every time we have to adapt." Liverpool’s quadruple dream has been dashed, but they can still go for a historic treble, having already landed the Carabao Cup. Domestic games are suspended as the international break takes center stage.
