Can United stop Liverpool's quadruple charge?

There are just four fixtures in the Premier League this weekend, with Tottenham and Aston Villa taking their top four fights to different grounds.

Ange Postecoglou’s side will be away to London rivals Fulham, while Aston Villa will travel to West Ham, knowing they cannot afford to drop points like they did last Weekend to Tottenham. It was a damaging loss to their direct top-four rivals; they must beat West Ham to stand a chance of ending the weekend in Champions League places.

Elsewhere this weekend, FA Cup actions will take centre stage. Newcastle will host the reigning champions. Depleted and battered, Eddie Howe’s side continues to soldier on despite their challenges, but can they stop Manchester City’s run in the cup?

The Cityzens learned their Champions League fate on Friday; they will play against Real Madrid for a chance in the last four. It’s probably the toughest of the lot, but they did it in the past, and they must do it again to retain their crown.

The lowest-ranked team left in the tournament, Coventry City, will travel to Wolves on Saturday; don’t write off the Championship side. They have fought hard to get themselves into the last eight; they aren’t the favourites to win this fixture, but they will give a good fight.

Wolves were impressed in their last cup game; they know they’re off to Wembley if they beat the Championship side, and, from the semifinals, anything can happen. Expect the game to swing from end to end, and Gary O’Neil might rest a few players, but he won’t take anything for granted.

Chelsea will negotiate with Leicester City for a place in the last four. They lost to the Foxes in the final of the 2021 FA Cup and also lost to Liverpool the following year. The Blues need some sunshine in a stormy season, and this tournament could offer them that.

The game of the weekend is the one between Liverpool and Manchester United. The Kops showed ruthlessness in their epic 6-1 win in the Europa League on Thursday and will play Lille in the quarterfinals of the competition.

Manchester United is well rested after their last home win over Everton; they didn’t play well but benefited from two brilliant moments from Garnacho. They will host Liverpool with a clear understanding of the fact that they cannot afford to be sloppy; the Kops don’t forgive.
