Liverpool’s quadruple charge is in full swing; a win over Manchester City will increase their lead at the top to two points after Arsenal beat Brentford on Saturday.

Manchester City can derail Liverpool’s title charge with a win at Anfield; it’s not something they’ve been able to do consistently as they have done on other grounds, but if you want to win the league this season, you must win on tough grounds.

In the context of the title race, this game is huge. The title will not be won or lost on Sunday, but whoever loses will look back on the game as the day the cookie began crumbling. None of them wants to lose this.

The reverse fixture ended 1-1; it was going City’s way with Erling Haaland’s goal, but Trent Alexander Arnold canceled the advantage with a few minutes left on the clock. It was a game to remember for many reasons; they both had to do it again.

There are tantrums everywhere in the build-up to this game. Pep Guardiola joined the banter when he was asked for his opinion on Alexander Arnold’s statement about the title feeling on both sides. He simply said, “I wish him a quick recovery,” and he ended it with a malicious straight face.

Haaland slammed the Liverpool defender for saying titles mean more to Liverpool fans than City’s because of how much they have spent. The Norwegian said the England man wouldn’t know what it feels like to win a treble because he didn’t win it.

Alexander Arnold will not feature in the game on Sunday, as it is too soon for him as he continues to recover from injury. Liverpool will miss his long balls and line-breaking passes, and they will depend on Alexis Mac Allister and Dominic Szoboszlai for those on Sunday.

Matheus Nunes, Jeremy Doku, and Jack Grealish are all doubts for the trip to Anfield, with the latter certainly ruled out. City will be happy to unleash Phil Foden on the Kops; he’s having a season of his life, and he will be interested in this one.

Mohammed Salah is back and available for selection; he likes this fixture; he has only blanked twice in this fixture in six seasons; he will be immense on Sunday. Keep an eye on Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne, and last week's hero, Darwin Nunez.

Verdict: Both teams scored.
