Manchester United and Tottenham have both started the year on a winning note, albeit in the FA Cup, and, right now, it’s about league conversations where both have it all to do.

The Red Devils were usurped on the table on Saturday by Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Fulham, and a Kevin De Bruyne-inspired win for the reigning champions Manchester City later on the same day means that Tottenham now has a frenetic chase to make if they want the title.

Manchester United’s form is nothing to be excited about. With two wins in their last five games and a 2-1 loss at the City Ground to Nottingham Forest being their last league action, the time has come for United to get a grip and find some consistency on the league front.

It’s looking good for Tottenham, and they will be the favorites in this fixture despite it being an away game for them. Tottenham has won four of their last five games, with the 4-2 loss at Brighton the only anomaly in their last five.

Ange Postecoglou still has a lot of injuries to deal with, and some of his players are also off to their respective national teams for the Africa Cup of Nations and the Asian Cup, respectively. He still has enough to prosecute the visit to Old Trafford.

Tottenham, with a healthy win, could go as high as third on the log, usurping Aston Villa and Arsenal in the process, but they have to do that without their talismanic captain, Heung Min Son, who is leading South Korea at the Asian Cup.

There’s an incentive for Manchester United as well. The Red Devils can move up to seventh on the log with a win, but they also must do it without Sofyan Amrabat, who is representing Morocco at AFCON, and a host of injured players.

Andre Onana has delayed his AFCON journey to be able to take part in this game, prompting fans to wonder why Erik Ten Hag didn’t play his backup goalkeeper in the FA Cup win over Wigan. At what point do we see someone else in goal for United?

It will be an interesting game. Sleek Tottenham is going up against a counter-attacking United side. Spurs will give it everything, and they just might launch their two new signings, Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin. They will give United a torrid evening at Old Trafford.

Verdict: Tottenham to win
