Tottenham is a team to watch out for this season as one would expect them to fire after the strong reinforcements by Antonio Conte and the fact that they had a great preseason where the Italian was able to test his tactics.

Southampton will struggle this season and that story might very well start from the opening day at the Tottenham Stadium. The Saints have stuck to their guns on their youth project and the question would be to wonder how far that can take them.

Shane Long and experienced goalkeeper Fraiser Forster have moved on and incidentally, the latter moved to Tottenham and while he’s not expected to start on Saturday against his former club, he would be on the bench as the back-up goalie.

Spurs must win here to level up with Arsenal who won on Friday night away at Palace and could well be behind Liverpool who play earlier in the day on Saturday. Whatever you want from the season must show from your opening game and Conte is known to want it right from the start.

Richarlison will not be eligible to play for Spurs as he serves a one match ban but Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic, Clement Lenglet and Djed Spence could all be involved against the Saints in the simultaneous fixtures on Saturday.

Spurs will also be able to call on their talismanic duo of Harry Kane and Heung Min Son with the latter expected to pick up from where he stopped last season as the joint top scorer; Dejan Kulusevski is another name to watch out for in this fixture.

Southampton will compete with Arsenal as the youngest side in the league with none of their new signings above 25years in age; Nigerian midfielder Joe Aribo will hope to get a look-in in the middle of the park but does Ralph Hassenheutl’s side have what it takes to stop Spurs?

Southampton beat Spurs in this fixture the last time it was played but that result remains their only win over Spurs in their last five meetings; can that eventful game last February inspire the Saints against Tottenham on Saturday?

Verdict: Spurs to win
