Mark Clattenburg reveals plan for "Tottenham title loss to Leicester" in 2016 (Audio)

Former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg shockingly admitted to having a gameplan as he "allowed Tottenham to self-destruct" when he refereed their 2-2 draw away at Chelsea last May.

To stand a chance of winning the title, Tottenham needed to beat their London rivals at Stamford bridge.

According to Mark Clattenburg, he went into the crucial Chelsea vs Tottenham match with a game plan, which is "Let Tottenham lose the title"

Speaking to NBC's Men in Blazers podcast, Clattenburg said: I allowed them [Spurs] to self-destruct so all the media, all the people in the world went: ‘Tottenham lost the title.’

If I sent three players off from Tottenham, what are the headlines? ‘Clattenburg cost Tottenham the title.’ It was pure theatre that Tottenham self-destructed against Chelsea and Leicester won the title.

Some referees would have played by the book; Tottenham would have been down to seven or eight players and probably lost and they would’ve been looking for an excuse.

But I didn’t give them an excuse, because my gameplan was: Let them lose the title.

Clattenburg officiated the 2016 Euro final, Champions League and FA cup finals of the same year.

He left the Premier League job back in  February as he was appointed as the head of Saudi Arabia's referees.
