Rose Zhang to sit out again

An historic Friday-morning foursomes session at the Solheim Cup saw the U.S. team dominate the Europeans, sweeping the session 4-0.

It was the Americans’ best start ever in the format as they endeavor to reclaim the Solheim Cup for the first time since 2017.

Observers were surprised when U.S. captain Stacy Lewis elected to sit two American stars for the opening session; world No. 2 Lilia Vu and emergent superstar Rose Zhang didn’t play until the afternoon foursomes. But the strategy paid off, as Lewis’ veterans (Lexi Thompson, Nelly Korda and Danielle Kang) showed up in a big way in foursomes.

The afternoon four-ball session was a different story. Three of the four matches went all the way to the 18th hole, and the U.S. team ultimately tied two matches and lost two, bringing the score from 4-0 to 5-3 with two days of play remaining.

Despite the loss of momentum, Lewis stuck with three of her four Friday-morning matchups for Saturday’s first session, replacing only Ally Ewing and Cheyenne Knight — who had the biggest win of the morning at 5 and 4 — with Lilia Vu and Jennifer Kupcho. Lewis also elected to sit Zhang once again for the morning session.

Below are the matchups and start times for the Saturday morning session of the Solheim Cup. After the morning session, four four-ball matches will close out the second day, setting the stage for an epic Sunday finish featuring all 12 players battling it out in singles You can watch all of the action from 2 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET on Friday on Golf Channel and Peacock.
