Orioles come back from lead to beat Rays


Ryan O’Hearn Hit an RBI in the ninth to help the Baltimore Orioles bounce back after squandering a five-run lead to a 6-5 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays in St. Petersburg, Florida, on Saturday.

James Mikan and Jorge Mateo each hit two-run doubles and Austin Hayes hit a double in a five-run fourth inning for the Orioles, which have won 11 of their past 14 games. Baltimore welcomed the burst of offense with just two hits in a 3-0 loss to Tampa Bay on Friday night.

Wander Franco hit a two-run run in the sixth and followed that up with a grounder in the eighth. Isaac Paredes and Randy Arozarena each scored a RBI for the Rays, who have lost six of their past seven games.

Adam Frazier hit a single to Pete Fairbanks’ left field (0-4) to start the ninth and eventually scored on O’Hearn’s single. The final drive gave Cionel Perez (3-1) the win, and he struck out Brandon Lowe to end the eighth. Felix Bautista fanned the last two hitters he faced in the ninth to put the team out in order and made his 27th save.

Reds 4, Diamondbacks 2

TJ Friedel, Matt McLean and Jake Fraley hit back-to-back home runs in the sixth to give Cincinnati a win over visiting Arizona.

Brandon Williamson pitched six one-run Innings to help Cincinnati win its fourth straight game. Williamson (2-2) struck out five and allowed just three hits and one walk-in. Friedel and Spencer Steele each had two hits for the Reds. Fraley had two RBIs. Despite allowing a run in the ninth, Alexis Diaz made his 29th save.

Arizona State’s Brandon Pfauter (0-4) hit three home runs while tossing six innings. He allowed three runs, hit four and fanned out six. Corbin Carroll hit his 20th home run of the season for the Diamondbacks.

Padres 14, Tigers 3

Luis Campasano had four hits, including a three-run homer, and drove in four runs as Jackson Wolf earned his Major League debut and San Diego beat host Detroit.

Manny Machado hit a 3-run bomb and Juan Soto hit a pair of home runs on Friday, also hitting a 3 for the Padres. Ha-Seong Kim had three hits, including a solo homer. Wolfe (1-0) lasted five innings, allowing three runs and six hits. He walked one and knocked out one.

Zach Short scored two for the Tigers. Detroit starter Matt Manning pitched two scoreless innings but was replaced after a nearly 90-minute delay due to heavy rain.

Dodgers 16, Rangers 3

Freddie Freeman hit two homers in Arlington, Texas, to give Los Angeles an easy win over Texas.

Freeman made 4 of 5 shots with 3 RBIs and 3 runs. David Peralta also went 4 for 5 from the field, while Max Muncy went 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs and 4 runs. Dodgers starter Bobby Miller (6-1) allowed three runs on seven hits. He struck out six times without issuing a walk.

Nathaniel Lowe had two hits and two RBIs for the Rangers, who took three innings off starter Dane Dunning (8-3). Dunning allowed five runs on seven hits, two walks and a fan.

Mets 5, Red Sox 4 (timeout ends)

Pete Alonso had two hits and scored to give New York a win over Boston in a timeout.

Play was suspended Friday night with a bottom-of-the-fourth out due to inclement weather. With New York leading 4-3 at the restart Saturday, the Mets extended their lead in the sixth after a double by Alonso, taking a third on a wild pitch and scoring on Brett Barty’s RBI single.

Boston tied the game when Triston Casas tripled with a seventh-inning lead and scored on a Rob Refsnyder sacrifice fly.

Red Sox 8, Mets 6

Triston Casas hit two home runs as Boston beat visiting New York to snap a three-game losing streak.

Casas hit a solo shot in the second inning and hit a two-run homer in the sixth to tie the game at 3-3. It was the first multi-homer game of Casas’ major league career. Boston also had solo homers from Jalen Duran and Chang Yu and a two-run homer from Justin Turner.

Four of the five home runs came against Mets starter Max Scherzer (8-4), who allowed five runs on six hits in six innings. Scherzer struck out seven and walked two. Boston starter James Paxton (6-2) limited the Mets to three runs (two earned) on three hits in six innings.

Brewers 4, Warriors 3

Sal Frilick had three hits in his major league debut, with a tie and go-ahead to give Milwaukee a win over visiting Atlanta.

Frelick sacrificed Joe Jimenez (0-3) in the eighth to keep Milwaukee in the lead. The Braves hit base in the ninth, but Devin Williams went all-in, making his 25th save of the season. Joel Payamps (4-1) sealed the win with a scoreless eighth.

Austin Riley made a 3-pointer for the Warriors in the third quarter. It was his sixth homer in his past five games. Braves starter Allan Winans made his major league debut three weeks before his 28th birthday, allowing two runs on five hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Yankees 5, Royals 2

Gerrit Cole struck out 10 and went 6 1/3 innings with two runs before DJ LeMahieu hit the winning homer to open the seventh inning for host New York over Kansas City.

Cole had five hits and had his fourth double-digit strikeout of the season. Vandy Peralta (3-1) earned the win and Giancarlo Stanton added two runs for the Yankees.

Nick Pratto homered in the third inning for the Royals and Maikel Garcia hit a game-tying single in the fifth as Kansas City dropped to 3-13 in its past 16 games.

Athletics 4, Astros 1

Rookie Zach Groff broke Christian Javier’s no-hitter on a two-run sixth inning, then added insurance with his first major league homer to help Oakland beat visiting Houston.

Jace Peterson’s two-run lead led and four A’s pitchers, led by starter Paul Blackburn, combined for six to help Oakland overcome Alex Bregman’s third homer in three nights and 16 games of the season. In the seventh, Gelof hit a Ryne Stanek home run to extend the lead to 3-1.

Austin Pruitt (2-6) tossed just four pitches to replace Oakland starter Paul Blackburn, who held the Astros to one run and five hits in 5 1/3 innings for the win. He walked three and struck out five. Javier (7-2) lost the game, allowing just one hit and walking six in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out five.

Rockies 4, Marlins 3

Rookie Nolan Jones hit a three-run homer and Randall Grichuk hit a single in the ninth to lead visiting Colorado over a sluggish Miami.

Colorado State starter Chase Anderson left the game trailing 0-3, but ultimately pulled out without a decision. He allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings. Daniel Budd (4-1) won with a scoreless inning save. Justin Lawrence was scoreless on his ninth save to bag his seventh.

The Marlins have lost eight games in a row, their longest slump since losing nine games between Aug. 28 and September last season. 7. Marlins second baseman Luis Arraez led the league with a .375 batting average, going 2 for 4 with a triple and a run.

Cubs 8, Cardinals 6

Cody Bellinger hit a two-run single in the sixth to drive four RBIs to help host Chicago overcome a four-run deficit to beat St. Louis.

The Cubs trailed 6-5 to St. Louis reliever Zach Thompson (2-3), who hit base in the sixth. Bellinger then scored two runs with his right single. Chicago scored another run in the inning on Seiya Suzuki’s RBI single. Suzuki and Nico Horner each had three hits, and Dansby Swanson returned from the injured list to go 2 for 4 with one RBI. Bellinger, meanwhile, is batting . 440 with six home runs and 19 RBIs in his past 24 games.

Lars Nootbaar and Nolan Gorman hit home runs for the Cardinals, who had their first win in four games and a six-game winning streak but lost their next two games. St. Louis starter Miles Mikolas allowed five runs and 11 hits in five innings, but was expected to win after Nootbaar scored (2-0) on eventual winner Daniel Palencia’s sixth-inning wild pitch.

Mariners 9, Blue Jays 8

Teoscar Hernandez’s two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning broke a tie as Seattle beat visiting Toronto.

Seattle hit four solo home runs, including two each from Carl Rowley and one each from Dylan Moore and Julio Rodriguez. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who won the home run derby, played for the Blue Jays, as did teammates Kevin Kiermaier and Brandon Belt.

Rookie Isaiah Campbell (1-0) earned his first major league win, and Justin Topaz got his second save despite allowing Kavan Biggio’s run-scoring single in the ninth. Nate Pearson (5-2) took the loss.

Guardians 1, Phillies 0

Tanner Bibee pitched seven winless innings to lead Cleveland to a win over visiting Philadelphia at halftime in a three-game series.

Bibby (6-2) had two hits, eight strikeouts and a walk. Enyel De Los Santos hit the eighth for 1-2-3, and Emmanuel Clase made his 27th save when he retired the first on the ninth.

Jose Ramirez goes solo for the Guardians. Phillies right-hander Zach Wheeler (7-5) allowed one run and five hits in seven innings. Philadelphia has lost four straight.

Nationals 10, Giants 1

CJ Abrams homered for the second straight day to help Washington beat visiting San Francisco, which has lost its fourth straight game.

Abrams’ 10th home run of the season came with a two-run hit in the second inning after Alex Call hit a two-run triple. Washington struck out six runs in the inning.

Nationals starter Josiah Gray (7-8) allowed one run with four hits and three walks in seven innings. He struck out four times. Logan Webb (8-8) took the loss and couldn’t get out of the second inning. He was charged with 1 walk on 5 hits and 6 runs in 1 1/3 innings.

Pirate 3, Angel 0

Endy Rodriguez hit his first home run in his fifth major league game as five Pittsburgh pitchers combined for five hits to help the Buccaneers beat Los Angeles in Anaheim, Calif.

Osvaldo Bido (2-1) pitched three scoreless innings after opener Ryan Borucki. Jose Hernandez and Carmen Mlodzinski each went 1 2/3 innings before the Angels went on a one-out ninth inning against All-Star finisher David Bednar, who escaped with his 19th save.

Los Angeles struck out 12 to end a four-game winning streak. The Angels also ended their franchise-record streak of 19 consecutive home runs.

Twins 3, White Sox 2

Michael A. Taylor singled in the seventh, Christian Vazquez went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI as Minnesota beat Chicago in Minneapolis.

Carlos Correa had four hits and two hits, while Jordan Balazovic (1-0) gave Minnesota his first major league win with a no-hitter inning and improved to 7-2 since the All-Star break. Joan Duran made his 17th save with two singles and a strikeout in the ninth.

Tim Anderson had two steals and two hits, while Yasmani Grandal and Robert also had two hits each for Chicago. Keenan Middleton (2-2) was underwhelmed by Dylan Seth, who allowed one run on three hits while striking out nine in six innings.
