These advances will make the metaverse a success

GlobalData analysts have revealed advancements that they believe will fuel the Metaverse and drive adoption. “Latency is a key obstacle to metaverse adoption. Various companies are trying to tackle this issue from various angles based on their technical or business acumen,” said Kiran Raj, head of disruptive technology practice at GlobalData. “Possible solutions could be in terms of network protocols, software applications, or hardware such as AR and VR chips and devices.” Among the possible solutions is a new internet protocol from Syntropy called DARP (Decentralized Autonomous Routing Protocol). DARP connects data centers around the world and can detect performance issues and instantly switch to a better performing channel. GlobalData says that new protocols like DARP will reduce network latency and help support metaverse and web 3.0 applications through their decentralization properties. Another latency buster on GlobalData’s list is Wi-Fi 7. GlobalData says that advanced multi-link operation (MLO) allows Wi-Fi 7 devices to quickly add channels and switch between them, maintaining performance on congested networks. high density. “The flow of data must be fast and continuous, as the demand for faster internet speeds increases every day with the advent of emerging technologies,” says Abhishek Paul Choudhury, Senior Disruptive Technology Analyst at GlobalData. “Decentralized routing protocols coupled with technological advances like Wi-Fi 7, blockchain, and edge computing can deliver better throughput and low latency compared to existing network capabilities.” On the app side, GlobalData points to a SaaS-based conferencing app created by Swiss startup TYXIT. The app’s proprietary technology supports latency of less than 30ms, similar to playing in the same room, which could enable real-time sound transfer for immersive experiences like concerts in the metaverse. Ultimately, immersive experiences will require state-of-the-art peripherals. A collaboration between wearable computing giant Vuzix and mobile operator Verizon sees the former taking advantage of the latter’s edge computing and 5G technologies. The combination of technologies enables Vuzix smart glasses to work longer, with higher computing power and improved response times. “The goal of the metaverse is for everyone, or at least a large number of individuals, to come together, as it is a social technology. As more people join, the number of syncs increases, along with the load on the network,” adds Choudhury. “The development of emerging technologies has the potential to minimize latency and play a critical role in making the metaverse a success.” (Photo by and machines on Unsplash) Want to learn about IoT from industry leaders?
