Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law a Bill on Thursday that Bans Abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy, with no exceptions for rape, incest or human trafficking. The bill, CS/HB 5, bans abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy and allows only a few exceptions, such as if the abortion would save a pregnant person’s life or prevent serious injury. It also allows abortions if fetal abnormalities are discovered after 15 weeks, but two doctors must sign off that the baby will die soon after birth. The bill is similar to a Mississippi anti-abortion law that also bans abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. Mississippi’s abortion law has been challenged as unconstitutional. The Supreme Court heard oral arguments on that case in December 2021, though it has yet to issue an opinion. CS/HB 5 has been criticized by various groups.
