President Joe Biden issued a statement Sunday calling for Tougher Gun Laws in response to the mass shooting in Sacramento that occurred early Sunday, which resulted in six deaths and at least a dozen injuries. In the statement, Biden discussed his Administration’s executive action to implement his gun crime reduction strategy. This strategy includes helping cities expand community violence interventions, “tackling gunrunning strike forces,” and increasing police numbers for community policing. Biden also called on Congress to act and provided a list of legal reforms, including a ban on bogus weapons, assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. Biden further advocated requiring background checks before gun purchases, including private transactions, and holding firearms manufacturers accountable for gun deaths. to fund the police and fund crime prevention and intervention strategies that can make our cities safer. “These are just some of the steps Congress must urgently take to save lives,” Biden said in the statement. “We must do more than cry; we must act”.
