A New York state judge ordered the Trump Organization on Monday to comply with a subpoena for Electronic Discovery from New York Attorney General Letitia James by the end of April. The subpoena stems from a New York Attorney General’s Office (OAG) investigation into the Trump Organization, which began in 2019. The investigation began after Donald Trump’s former attorney, Michael Cohen, testified before Congress that the The organization manipulated the value of Trump’s assets to obtain loans and insurance, while reducing the tax burden. Most recently, a New York State judge ruled that former US President Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump must comply with subpoenas to testify under oath in connection with the investigation. The Trumps have since appealed the decision. Monday’s decision by Justice Arthur Engoron of the New York Supreme Court concerned the electronic discovery of electronic devices belonging to people included in the investigation. Electronic discovery could potentially cover electronic documents and records, as well as text messages. Judge Engoron ordered representatives of the Trump Organization to comply with the electronic discovery subpoena by April 15, giving an additional two weeks to certify and produce the remaining materials. The judge also ordered Haystack, a third-party eDiscovery provider overseeing the process, to file weekly reports on the progress of the eDiscovery. Both representatives from the Trump Organization and the New York OAG are scheduled to attend a state conference in person. with Judge Engoron on April 25, days before the electronic discovery process ends.
