Apart from been the first African to play in the UCL final Mendy will also become the first black goalkeeper to feature in the UCL final since Dida in 2007.

Dida on Mendy: "It’s certainly great to see a black goalkeeper in the Champions League final. This means that it is the merit and skills of a goalkeeper to be rewarded, not the colour of his skin. I think we should not be surprised by this as it should become normal."
Meanwhile Chelsea and France international midfielder Ngolo Kante is also back in full training and he's set to start against the Citizens.

Chelsea predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Mendy; Christensen, Silva, Rudiger; Azpilicueta, Kante, Jorginho, Chilwell; Ziyech, Mount; Werner
