Breaking News! (New Child Support Laws Coming to Arkansas)

The way Arkansas calculates child Support will soon be changing! The Arkansas General Assembly recently passed An Act to Revise the Family Support Chart to Reflect Payor and Recipient Income. Currently, child support payments are calculated based solely on the income of the paying parent. Under this Act, Arkansas will soon calculate child support payments based on both parents’ income, also known as an income shares model. The Act mandates that a committee revise the family support chart to reflect these changes on or before March 1, 2020.

The new child support guidelines will also include a method of calculating support in joint custody cases to provide uniformity across the state.

This Act follows a nationwide trend, as Arkansas will become the 41st state to move to an income shares model. There are still many details to work out and unknowns at this time, but we will be sure to update our blog as we learn more!
