The 2022-23 Season Opener | Team News, Injury Updates, and Probable Lineup – Crystal Palace vs Arsenal

Arsenal will be looking to make the perfect start to their 2022-23 Premier League Campaign when they travel to Selhurst Park on Friday night to take on Crystal Palace. Mikel Arteta and Edu had a successful transfer window with five signings coming in at different positions. Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko are 4-time PL champions and will bring in the much-needed experience and mentality into the squad.

With North London rivals Spurs also strengthening their squad and after last year’s heartbreak of missing out on Champions League, the Gunners need to make a strong start this season. Arteta’s men face a Crystal Palace side managed by former Arsenal man Patrick Viera, who finished 12th in the table last season.

Injury/Suspension List:

Arsenal could welcome four key players to their matchday squad ahead of their opening day fixture against Crystal Palace. Takehiro Tomiyasu who struggled with injuries last season, has missed pre-season in a bid to reach full fitness and should be on the bench against the Eagles.

Emile Smith Rowe has a muscular problem and is expected to be back if he can prove his fitness in the training session ahead of the game. Kieran Tierney who was out for the major part of last season due to knee injury will be a welcome boost for Arteta at left-back.

New signing Fabio Vieira has been nursing a foot injury that he picked up while representing Portugal Under-21s, and he is a major doubt for the North London side’s first match of the new Premier League campaign.

Arsenal Starting Lineup (4-2-3-1):

Aaron Ramsdale (GK); Saliba (RB), Ben White (CB), Gabriel (CB), Zinchenko (LB); Granit Xhaka (CDM), Thomas Partey (CDM); Bukayo Saka (RW), Martin Ødegaard (CAM), Gabriel Martinelli (LW); Gabriel Jesus (ST)

Predicted Score:

Crystal Palace 1-1 Arsenal

The Gunners should make a sluggish start to the season like last year against Brentford with a make-shift defense. But there is enough quality in the side in attack to ensure that they score atleast a goal in ninety minutes.

Manager Mikel Arteta will hope his side have recovered from any mental scars caused by a demoralising end to a promising 2021-22 season, slipping out of the final Champions League spot courtesy of a limp defeat to arch-rivals Tottenham and a beating at Newcastle in their final three games. The Spaniard has been busy in the transfer market over the summer, and his signings have left fans optimistic that the team will improve on their fifth-placed finish last time out.
