United ran out 2-1 winners as Jose Mourinho’s men exploited Liverpool’s weakness in the defence. Before the half hour mark 30 minutes Liverpool were (2-0) goals down as the visitors struggled to deal with the Red Devils strategy in the contest. This was evident as Juan Mata nearly added the third goal in about time with an overhead kick. This happened amazingly with the Reds defence nowhere to be found at that time. Liverpool needed an own goal from defender Eric Baily to get a respite in the clash as Mane’s delivery was turned in by the Ivorian (center half) defender.

This saw Rashford bag a brace within the space of 10 minutes (14, 24th minutes) thus paving the way for his side 2-1 win at home.

Salah Checkmated

The Liverpool man was marked with great effect as Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia brought their physicality and experience to the fray. This was evident as Young stood his ground, against the Egyptian despite series of attempt from Liverpool to set-up their talismanic forward in the contest. This was key and vital as United held from to seal a 2-1 win despite occasional threat from Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain and Sadio Mane in the game.
