Gerard Pique warns Barcelona president that Umtiti wants to leave

GERARD PIQUE has raised concerns with Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu that Samuel Umtiti is eyeing a January move.

Samuel Umtiti has been linked with a move away from Barcelona this month with Manchester United reportedly showing interest.

The France international has a meagre £53million release clause which the Old Trafford club are said to be considering activating.

And Gerard Pique has reportedly raised concerns with Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu that Umtiti wants out.

Spanish outlet Don Balon claim the former Lyon man feels undervalued and Pique has acted swiftly in an attempt to keep him at the Nou Camp.

Virgil van Dijk’s record-breaking £75m move from Southampton to Liverpool is said to have infuriated Umtiti.

The Frenchman has taken it as a sign that his release clause is far too low and he is not highly valued by the Catalan side.

And he is also said to want a role in the starting XI alongside Pique, rather than jostling with Thomas Vermaelen for a place.

However, Barca boss Ernesto Valverde claimed last week he was not concerned the 24-year-old would look for a move, despite his low

"I'm not worried about what clubs might or might not do,” he said when quizzed about Manchester United being linked with Umtiti.

“Umtiti is a great player and we expect him to stay at Barca for many more years and for him to enjoy his football with us.

"To an extent, the buyout clause is made high so that you can't buy the player.

"As time goes by, that fee doesn't seem so high at all, but the player still has to want to leave.

“We're very happy with Umtiti and I'm sure he's going to stay here for a very long time."
