London based club, Chelsea are reportedly set to enter a transfer war with Barcelona as both clubs have spotted Bayer Leverkusen starlet Atakan Akkaynak and are keen to make a move for him.
The report further stated that Barcelona have also been keeping tabs on him for more than a year, and they are not the only other European Club interested in Akkaynak , as he has been watched by many others clubs over the past 12 months even though he is yet to make his debut for the Leverkusen senior side.
Obviously it would be a straight forward signing for any club that eventually gets him as Leverkusen won’t be able to compete financially with the likes of Barcelona and Chelsea, with the youngster’s current contract to expire in 2019, they might want to cash in while they still can.
However, the player himself will face a difficult decision as to which club to join. It appears as though opportunities for youngsters at Chelsea are very slim given the number of players they have out on loan or sold in recent times. It might also not be easier at Barca either given the quality in the current senior squad, and so Akkaynak has a strong choice to make over which club he believes will fit him best for his career development, if he does indeed decide to leave Leverkusen at this stage.
