Championship Predictions: Middlesbrough, Millwall and Sheffield United to win?

A lot of Championship teams are already out of FA Cup so they can focus on league football and try to do their best in upcoming fixtures. This weekend is certainly bringing us a lot of fun and excitement as many direct opponents will play against each other. It’s hard to predict results in gameweeks like this, but we’ll try anyway.

Leeds United vs Derby County

When it comes to this match, everything can happen. Both teams are fighting for promotion, with Leeds United being the best team in Championship so far. The thing is, none of the top teams is in good form at the moment. Derby County is losing points when they should be winning, and Leeds United has lost their last three matches, two in Championship and one in FA Cup. Leeds United has to be a favorite here, they hold the first place in Championship, they have been the best team so far and they play at home, however considering their form and their opponent, I’d say that a draw is the most likely outcome of this one.

Draw: 1-1

Birmingham City vs Middlesbrough

Although Birmingham has lost only one home game so far this season, they will have a hard time getting a good result against Middlesbrough. An away team had an excellent game in FA Cup beating Peterborough 5-0, and after that performance we might even see Ashley Fletcher getting a second chance in Championship. Middlesbrough has been amazing away from home this season and with their new signing Rajiv van La Parra ready to start, they will be looking to improve their attack. Birmingham has an excellent squad, but I think they’ll lose against their direct opponents on Saturday.

Middlesbrough to win: 0-2

Brentford vs Stoke City

Gary Rowett got sacked a few days ago and Luton manager Nathan Jones took over his place. Stoke City really has a great squad, but they simply hasn’t played at their best level this season. When it comes to Brentford, they are improving and their form is better than it was a few weeks ago. They are unbeaten in their last four matches, but I wouldn’t be so optimistic about them winning this match. As for Stoke City, they still have to improve their attack and winning this game would be a great start for them with their new manager.

Stoke City to win: 1-2

Bristol City vs Bolton Wanderers

Although they still haven’t reached the play-offs, Bristol City has been one of the teams that are currently in best form in Championship. They are unbeaten in their last eight matches and they have won four of them. On the other side, Bolton Wanderers are far from their best form, they are struggling at the bottom and they are constantly losing. The fact that Bolton hasn’t won none of their last ten away matches and the form that their opponent are in is enough to make Bristol City favorites to win this one.

Bristol City to win: 2-0

Hull City vs Sheffield Wednesday

Steve Bruce haven’t waited long to take over a new club and in next few games we we’ll see if he can change things with Sheffield Wednesday. When it comes to this match, I wouldn’t expect much from them. Hull City currently has the best form in Championship, they are unbeaten in their last eight league matches and six of them were wins. Their 6-0 win against Bolton in their last league game is showing us why they are currently the best side in Championship and I don’t think that they will finish their winning run on Saturday.

Hull City to win: 2-0

Ipswich Town vs Rotherham United

This has been a busy transfer window for Ipswich Town and they are working hard to improve their performance as soon as possible. They are mostly trying to bring in goal scorers and although it can be hard for a team that is facing relegation to attract new players, they trying to sign a lot of players on loan. Although they have been the worst team in Championship this season, they have been better lately and considering the fact that Rotherham United hasn’t won a single away game so far, Ipswich might get another home win.

Ipswich Town to win: 1-0

Preston North End vs Swansea City

Games like this are often hard to predict, however Swansea City has been improving their form lately while Preston has been dropping points. When it comes to their away performance, Swansea City has been quite good this season. They have won 5 and drew 3 away games so far, so it can be expected for them to perform better in this one.

Swansea City to win: 0-1

Reading vs Nottingham Forest

Another team that has been dropping points lately has been Nottingham Forest, but they are still one place bellow play-offs and they have to go for a win in this one to lower a gap between them and their opponents. Reading is yet to show quality under their new boss and it seems that they are struggling even more now than they have struggled with Paul Clement. As I said earlier, Nottingham Forest has to go for a win, they’ve lost only two away games so far and they have a better squad than Reading.

Nottingham Forest to win: 1-2

Sheffield United vs Queens Park Rangers

This has to be one of the most exciting matches this weekend! Sheffield United is fighting for a straight promotion once again and their opponents, Queens Park Rangers, have been in excellent form lately. Considering the fact that Norwich will have quite a tough match, Sheffield United will be even more motivated to win this one. I expect both teams to score in this one with home side creating more chances.

Sheffield United to win: 2-1

West Bromwich Albion vs Norwich City

If Norwich City loses this game, they might drop from second to fourth place in Championship. West Bromwich Albion has the best attack in the league and they have lost only two home games so far. I expect a lot of action on both sides; both teams will probably score as both teams have to go for a win. For me, West Bromwich Albion certainly has a better team, they are looking to get back in fight for a first place and they will certainly work hard to take this opportunity and win.

West Bromwich Albion to win: 3-2

Wigan Athletic vs Aston Villa

Well, Wigan Athletic is now fighting for survival. Their good form haven’t last long, and they have to work really hard to stay in Championship now. They have been awful since Nick Powel got injured, but they are still a better side at home than they are in away games. Aston Villa is struggling to win. They have the second best attack in the league, but they concede far too many. Although they are favorites to win this one, I expect Wigan to work hard and earn a point.

Draw: 1-1

Millwall vs Blackburn Rovers

Last game this weekend will be played on Saturday when Millwall will meet with Blackburn Rovers. Although Millwall is far from their best form, they are still excellent at home which might be the biggest reason why they are not in relegation zone. Blackburn Rovers are tough opponent, but they have been dropping a lot of points lately, especially away from home. I expect both teams to score in this one, but considering their form at home, Millwall has a better chance to win.

Millwall to win: 2-1
