Last weekend a lot of favorites lost their matches, this time all of these teams have to work harder as it is gameweek 10 in Championship and a lot of teams have to improve their performance in order to achieve something this season. Will Garry Monk continue to win with Birmingham and can Aston Villa finally improve their performance? These are Championship Predictions for this weekend.

Bristol City vs Aston Villa

One of two matches that will be played on Friday night is going to be played in Bristol. Aston Villa has been in awful form lately, while Bristol City has won their last two home matches. I Expect a lot of goals from this one, I expect both teams to score, but I think that Bristol City has a slightly better chance to win. Andreas Weimann hasn’t scored in last four games, but we can expect him to continue his excellent form from the beginning of the season on Friday against Aston Villa.

Bristol City to win: 2-1

Sheffield Wednesday vs Leeds

Now, Sheffield Wednesday proved me wrong in their last match when they managed to beat Aston Villa. After that win, they will certainly try to get a good result against Leeds, team that has a big injury list at the moment. However, Leeds United lost their first game last weekend and I am not sure that Marcelo Bielsa will allow his team to do that again against Sheffield Wednesday. I expect an attacking football from Leeds United, hard work to try to get a goal and Samuel Saiz to be the key man in this match. Although Sheffield Wednesday plays at home, I believe that Leeds has better chance to win.


Leeds United to win: 0-1

Birmingham vs Ipswich

Now that Garry Monk has finally won the game, his team can play without pressure. After all, wining an away match against Leeds United is certainly a big boost for the team to stay confident and fight to get all three points against Ipswich at home. Ipswich is a good side, but they are still struggling to get a win, they couldn’t score against Bolton at home, although Bolton had a red card, and they will certainly struggle to find the back of the net in away match against Birmingham.

Birmingham to win: 2-0

Blackburn vs Nottingham Forest

Although Nottingham Forest is a very strong side, I don’t think that Blackburn will lose this one. Nottingham managed to win their last two matches, but Blackburn Rovers are still unbeaten at home. They have an excellent squad and the fact that Bradley Dack is back from injury is even more of the bad news for Nottingham Forest. Karanka is a smart manager, he won’t allow his team to lose against Blackburn, but I don’t expect them to win neither.

Draw: 1-1

Bolton vs Derby County

An away win against Manchester United in Carabao Cup will certainly be a big boost for Derby County. Winning again after that match would be hard if they played against some of the better sides, but Bolton is not in such an excellent form. They had a good start, but now they are losing points even against the teams that are in relegation zone. Derby County is currently in great form, they’ve won two very hard games and they will certainly go for a win against Bolton on Saturday.


Derby County to win: 1-2

Brentford vs Reading

Brentford can’t afford to lose points against Reading. They had an excellent start of the season and their team is finally good enough to fight for a promotion this season. Winning games like this is the most important thing for Brentford as they used to lose a lot of points against sides from the bottom in previous seasons. Although Paul Clement will probably give his team instructions to defend, Neal Maupay has been in amazing form for Brentford so far with 8 goals and 3 assists, and I expect him to continue that form against Reading on Saturday.

Brentford to win: 2-0

Hull vs Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough could’ve hold the first place right now after Leeds United managed to lose, but they couldn’t break Swansea defence and now they have to do it against Hull. Luckily for them, Hull is awful in defence, they conceded 16 goals in 9 games so far and they lost three matches at home. I expect Pulis to bring more attacking line-up for this one, to have more possession and let his team know that they have to score more than once as games like this has to be won when you are chasing a straight promotion.

Middlesbrough to win: 1-2

Millwall vs Sheffield United

Millwall has been in awful form lately even at home. Sheffield United on the other side is having a nice time in Championship once again, they are winning a lot of matches, they are scoring a lot of goals and obviously they are giving their best to secure a play-off spot at the end of the season. Billy Sharp is in excellent form this season, he scored four goals so far and he always provides an excellent performance against teams like Millwall. Although Millwall is very tough opponent, I’d say that Sheffield United has a better chance to win this one.

Sheffield United to win: 0-1

Norwich vs Wigan

This is one of the matches in which I expect a big amount of goals. Norwich is magnificent side but they are conceding a lot, while Wigan is also very strong in attack and none of these two will rely on their defence on Saturday. Looking in their last five matches, Norwich is in slightly better form, but Wigan has played against better teams. Although I expect a lot of goals in this one, I don’t think that any of these two sides will get a win.

Draw: 2-2

Preston vs WBA

I can’t really understand everything that is going on with Preston, they have a strong side, they’ve been excellent last season, but now they hold the last place after 9 games. They concede a lot and it would be really hard for them to defend against the best attack in the league. West Bromwich Albion is one of the strongest sides in Championship, they without the doubt have the best team and certainly they will work hard to win against Preston. I expect them to continue their excellent form and score a lot of goals on Saturday.

WBA to win: 0-3

Swansea vs QPR

This should be an easy win for Swansea. They’ve been in excellent form this season, they always work hard and the fact that they are playing at home on Saturday is a big advantage for them. QPR has played better after their awful start, but I still don’t think that they are good enough to get a good result in Wales. I don’t expect a lot of goals in this one and I believe that Swansea City can keep a clean sheet against QPR.


Swansea to win: 1-0

Rotherham vs Stoke

Stoke managed to lose at home against Blackburn in their last match, but against Rotherham, they just have to work hard and get a win. A lot of chances were missed in their previous games and such an experienced side shouldn’t be losing against newly promoted League One clubs. Obviously, things are not working for Gary Rowett and Stoke City, but they are completely aware of their situation and the fact that they need a win as soon as possible. Luckily for them, Rotherham is not one of the better teams in Championship and Stoke City can easily get their first away win this season.
