Championship Predictions: Leeds to stay unbeaten? Ipswich to finally win?

The table looks much better after that midweek round. We can finally see which clubs are in good form and which clubs are ready to actually fight for the promotion this season. A lot of exciting matches will be played in Championship this weekend and here are our predictions for them.

Wigan vs Bristol City

First game will be played on Friday night when Wigan will meet Bristol City. Both teams are in similar form with Wigan having one point less then Bristol City, but can they finish above them after this round? I believe that they can. Although I Expect both teams to score in this one, Wigan is very dangerous at home and after their good start they can play without pressure. They are excellent in attack and Bristol City is conceding a lot on counter so Wigan can definitely use that to score more than once.

Wigan to win: 2-1

Aston Villa vs Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday is still in good form, but they are simply not the team that I expect to do much this season. Aston Villa on the other side can do much more than they did so far. They are losing good results because of their defence, but in matches like this they have to go for a win. In attack, Aston Villa is very dangerous, they have many options and they can certainly score against Sheffield Wednesday. After their clean sheet against Rotherham on Tuesday, another clean sheet would be a big boost for their defence.

Aston Villa to win: 1-0

Derby vs Brentford

Derby County is struggling to score lately and although that might be the case again on Saturday, I expect a very exciting game against Brentford. It’s hard for the game not to be exciting when Brentford is playing, they made a big step up this season and with the form they are in, they can easily fight with Leeds for the first place. Young Neal Maupay is currently best player in Championship with 8 goals and 3 assists, and he can easily continue that form against Derby County.

Brentford to win: 1-2

Ipswich vs Bolton

Every season we have one team that starts good than fall down and one team that starts bad than go up. For me, it’s Bolton and Ipswich this season. Ipswich is certainly having a great squad, excellent manager and good performance, but they can’t get a result. Bolton started well in first few games, but in last four they’ve only got a point. Paul Hurst is still changing formations for every game, but a draw against Brentford was definitely a positive result for Ipswich. This time, they have an advantage of playing at home, they had a better result in previous game and they can use the fact that Bolton is in awful form.

Ipswich to win: 1-0

Leeds vs Birmingham

Leeds vs Birmingham is another game from which I expect an attractive performance from both teams. Garry Monk never tries to defend against better teams, he always try to score and although Birmingham is really struggling to get a win lately, they will certainly work hard and try to win this one. Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford are still injured, but young forward Tyler Roberts proved to be quite a useful signing as he scored two goals for Leeds in their last match against Preston. I expect Leeds to continue their unbeaten run and win against Birmingham on Saturday.

Leeds to win: 2-0

Middlesbrough vs Swansea

I don’t really expect a lot of goals in this one, Middlesbrough kept a clean sheet six times in eight games so far and Swansea is also the team that’s very organized in defence. The biggest mystery about this game might be who will start as a forward for Middlesbrough? Jordan Hugil started the last match against Bolton, but Britt Assombalonga has scored coming from the bench. I expect Middlesbrough to win this one, they play at home, and as I said many times, they are very dangerous from set pieces.

Middlesbrough to win: 1:0

Nottingham Forest vs Rotherham

Nottingham Forest has to go up. They are midtable after 8 games and the results they are getting are not the results they wanted after spending the big money on summer. Luckily for them, their next game will be against Rotherham. They’ve got their first win this season in their last match against Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham should be another easy game for them. Their biggest signings Lewis Grabban and Joao Carvalho both scored in their last match and they can easily continue that form on Saturday against Rotherham.

Nottingham Forest to win: 2-0

Reading vs Hull

I expect two draws in this gameweek, and one of these draws I expect to happen in this match. Reading got their first win against Preston, than they lost against Norwich. Hull is generally not so good when it comes to an away performance. Although I expect this game to finish with a draw, I believe that both teams can score as both teams are better in attack than they are in defence. Can any of these two score more than once? I wouldn’t say so.

Draw: 1-1

Sheffield United vs Preston

Preston is in really bad form this season; they even managed to lose a home game against Reading. Sheffield United on the other side is in quite good form recently, they couldn’t score against Birmingham in their last match, but I am certain that this one will be much easier for them. Billy Sharp has an excellent start of the season for Sheffield United and if he starts on Saturday he can easily continue that form. Considering the form that Preston is in, I believe that Sheffield United has a better chance to win this one.

Sheffield United to win: 2-0

Stoke vs Blackburn

In this moment, Stoke is in better form than Blackburn, but Blackburn is having some excellent results this season. It’s hard to predict the game like this one, Stoke managed to get their second win this season against Swansea in their previous match, but Blackburn managed to get a draw in away game against Derby County. Although these two clubs are in similar form and although Stoke had a really bad start, I would say that they have a better chance to win this one considering the fact that they are simply not in the position to lose.

Stoke to win: 2-1

WBA vs Millwall

West Bromwich Albion continues their excellent form after the 4-2 win in their last match against Bristol City. They’ve managed to score 20 goals in 8 games so far, more than any other team in Championship. Darren Moore is aware of the form that Millwall is in, and they will certainly go for the win in this one. Millwall haven’t won in their last five matches and it will be extremely hard for them to get a good result against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

West Bromwich to win: 2:1

QPR vs Norwich

There haven’t been a lot of 0-0 matches in Championship this season, and even less 0-0 matches in which Birmingham wasn’t one of two sides that are competing for the win. Both QPR and Norwich will certainly try to win this one, both teams are solid in attack and both teams are better in defence lately. And although I expect an exciting match, I believe that in this game, both teams can easily finish with a clean sheet.

Draw: 0-0
