Championship Predictions: WBA and Leeds to win? Derby and Blackburn to split points?

As some of the best Premier League clubs are playing Champions League this Tuesday and Wednesday, we will have another midweek round in Championship. A lot of favorites lost on weekend and some of the clubs from the bottom are finally having a chance to get out of the relegation zone. Will Leeds United stay unbeaten and can Bristol City continue their winning run? These are the Championship Predictions for this gameweek.

Aston Villa vs Rotherham

Aston Villa barely managed to get a point against Blackburn in their last match, but they did scored a late equalizer. After their start of the season with two wins, Aston Villa haven’t won a single game, they seem to be struggling in defence, while their attack looks really dangerous. Things are quite simple, they can’t afford to lose points against Rotherham at home, so Aston Villa will certainly work hard to get a win and I don’t expect anything less than all three points from them. Yannick Bolasie, their biggest signing this summer, will probably start against Rotherham at home.

Aston Villa to win: 2-0

Derby vs Blackburn

Derby had a really bad result in their last match, they’ve lost 1-0 against Rotherham and now they will play against another newly promoted League One club. Blackburn is a tougher opponent than Rotherham and although Derby County is playing at home, they still don’t look confident enough to fight for a promotion. Bradley Dack is fit again for Blackburn, he scored against Aston Villa in their last match and it wouldn’t a surprise if he manages to find a back of the net against Derby County too.

Draw: 1-1

Ipswich vs Brentford

This is not an opponent you want to have when you’re holding the last place in Championship. Brentford have showed a great performance so far, they were always a tough team, but this season they look really dangerous. Neal Maupay is basically carrying the team, he has 7 goals and 3 assists in five matches so far for Brentford and he can easily continue that form against Ipswich. If Ipswich was playing any other team I would think that they at least stand a chance, but I don’t think that they can get a good result against Brentford.

Brentford to win: 1-2

Leeds vs Preston

Leeds United has both strikers injured; Kemar Roofe is out for 2-3 weeks, while Patrick Bamford can stay out for four months. Although this is a really bad situation for the most promising side in Championship, Leeds will play at home against the team that still haven’t managed to find their form this season. Preston has only one win so far and their performance is not good enough to compete with Leeds United. It will be nice to see what formation and line-up will Marcelo Bielsa choose against Preston and who will start as a striker on Tuesday.

Leeds to win: 1-0

Wigan vs Hull

Wigan lost their last match, while Hull managed to win, but in the match they play against each other, I would expect Wigan to be the better side. They look more confident on the pitch, their players are always working hard to get a result and the fact that they are playing at home is the big advantage for them. I expect both teams to score and Wigan to be the side that will score more than once. Nick Powel hasn’t got a goal or assists in last few games, but he is still in excellent form for Wigan.

Wigan to win: 2-1

Stoke vs Swansea

Something is just not working for Gary Rowett in Stoke City. They still have only one win and they are conceding more than they should with a team that they are having. Swansea on the other side is an excellent squad, they always work hard, their manager is excellent when it comes to tactics and there is no doubt that they will try to get all three points against Stoke City. Young Oliver McBurnie is in great form for the Welsh side, he scored four goals so far and Stoke City defenders will have a big problem trying to keep him from scoring once again.

Swansea to win: 0-1

WBA vs Bristol City

Bristol City is currently the team with the best form in the league, but can they continue their winning run against West Bromwich Albion? I don’t think so. They will certainly fight for a win, but West Bromwich Albion is one of the best Championship sides this season and they currently in position where they need a win. It doesn’t matter that much for West Bromwich Albion who are they playing against, they might have the best squad in Championship and the fact that they are playing at home is certainly a big advantage for them. I expect both teams to score, but West Bromwich Albion should be a better side in this one.

WBA to win: 2:1

Middlesbrough vs Bolton

Middlesbrough is not unbeaten anymore as they’ve lost against Norwich in their last match on Saturday. This time they will play against Bolton, the team that’s not really that good with away performance. The biggest problem for Middlesbrough might be finding a back of the net, but they are very dangerous from set pieces as some of their big defenders can easily score a header. Although they’ve conceded against Norwich, I think that this game can be another clean sheet for Darren Randolph and Middlesbrough.

Middlesbrough to win: 1-0

Nottingham Forest vs Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday is in really good form lately, they’ve had a bad start but they’ve managed to improve their performance and they are currently in the better position than Nottingham Forest. Although they are in the good form, Nottingham Forest has to fight for a win in this one; another draw certainly wouldn’t be a good result for Aitor Karanka. Lewis Grabban still hasn’t score a goal for Nottingham Forest and this game might be the one when he will get back in form.

Nottingham Forest to win: 1-0

QPR vs Millwall

QPR is another team that found their form lately, they lost their first four games and everyone thought that they will continue struggling, but they showed a great motivation and managed to get out of the relegation zone. Millwall is still trying to find their form from the previous season but they haven’t got a win in their first three away matches. I expect both teams to score in this one, but can any of these sides score more than once? I don’t think so, draw should be the most likely result of this game.

Draw: 1-1

Sheffield United vs Birmingham

This sounds like the really exciting match. Birmingham still hasn’t won a single game and as I said before, Garry Monk is very unlucky this season. I expect a lot of goals in this one, both teams will try to get a win and both managers are having an attacking style of football. Sheffield United is currently in the better form, they hold a 5th place with 4 wins and 3 lost matches and with another win they can certainly continue that amazing form that they are currently in. Birmingham doesn’t have the best away record so far; they’ve lost two games and managed to get one draw.

Sheffield United to win: 2-1

Reading vs Norwich

Both teams won their last game and both teams will be very confident before this one. Reading finally started scoring and the return of John Swift might be the reason why their performance was so good against Preston. Although it’s just their first win this season, I expect them to be the better side in this one too. Norwich is not so good away from home, while Reading is a really tough opponent when they play at home. I expect Bodvarsson to start this one, and maybe continue the good form he was in at the start of the season.

Reading to win: 1-0
