12 North Carolina built an early double-digit lead and then needed a Trey Morrison interception to thwart a potential game-tying two-point conversion in the final minute to escape Massachusetts with a 26-22 victory over Boston College.

The Eagles, under first-year head coach Jeff Hafley, flipped momentum by scoring on three consecutive drives and slowing down UNC’s offensive juggernaut just enough to trail 21-16 entering halftime.

The Furman transfer missed a 47-yard attempt with 5:46 to play, setting up a dramatic finish as quarterback Phil Jurkovec directed a 15-play, 69-yard touchdown drive that culminated with a six-yard scoring strike to C.J.

Jurkovec was forced to scramble to his right on the two-point conversion attempt and Morrison intercepted the pass at the goal line and returned it 100 yards for the two-point score.

Jay Bateman’s defense wasn’t as disruptive as it showed against Syracuse, although it accomplished its goal of keeping its opponent out of the end zone for all but one possession.

And on the Eagles’ final drive of the first half, Long slipped free in the end zone but Jurkovec missed his throw to set up yet another field goal attempt.
