Brewers 'trying to catch lightning in a bottle' with Daniel Vogelbach, who will serve as DH

Newly acquired Daniel Vogelbach hopped right into the lineup as the Milwaukee Brewers opened a three-game series Friday against the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field.

Vogelbach figures to be able to play some first base too in a pinch, but having accounted for minus-10 defensive runs saved in 111 appearances there with the Seattle Mariners from 2016-20 it's clear the Brewers are counting on him making an impact with his left-handed bat.

But Vogelbach finished with just a .208 average and slashed .162/9/25 in the second half and followed up with an .094/2/4 line in 18 games with the Mariners this season before his contract was sold to the Toronto Blue Jays on Aug. 24.

“I probably couldn’t have told you that I was an All-Star last year and that I was going to be on my third team right now, but I’m a believer," said Vogelbach, who counts former Mariners and current Brewers Ben Gamel and Omar Narváez among his friends.

The plan was for Jonie to be induced early Tuesday morning, but when she woke up in pain Monday and went to the hospital as a precaution she learned the process had already begun.
