WWE/TwitterWWE has missed plenty of opportunities with Braun Strowman over the past few years, and at Elimination Chamber 2020, the company got it wrong again when “The Monster Among Men” lost the Intercontinental Championship to Sami Zayn in a 3-on-1 handicap match.

No Mercy 2017, Royal Rumble 2018 and Crown Jewel 2018 all immediately jump out as times when WWE very easily could have went all in on Strowman with a world title win but ultimately chose not to.

For much of the past decade, WWE has consistently overlooked the Intercontinental title and whoever’s holding it (aside from a select few names, that is), and there was concern that same fate would even befall the typically strongly booked Strowman.

Though there are other big stars with worse WrestleMania reumes, it’s hard to qualify WWE’s use of Strowman at Mania throughout his career as anything less than a series of major letdowns.

According to reports, Strowman was slated to defend the Intercontinental title in one of a whopping 16 matches at WrestleMania 36, which would have meant that—for the first time in what is shaping up to be a Hall of Fame caliber career—Strowman could do what Dolph Ziggler has never done and find himself in a marquee singles bout.
