An unfortunate series of Injuries at the wrong time resulted in one of the stranger lineups for the Blackhawks in recent memory.
The morning skate at the United Center before Monday's game against the Blues seemed promising when Dylan Strome took the ice with his teammates for the first time since entering the NHL’s concussion protocol last week.
Robin Lehner was also unavailable with flu-like symptoms, forcing the Hawks to call up goalie Kevin Lankinen from Rockford on an emergency basis to serve as Corey Crawford's backup.
As a result of the injuries and being unable to call up another forward because they don’t have enough salary-cap space, the Hawks were short-handed when they took on the defending Stanley Cup champs.
Defenseman Ian McCoshen, who was called up from Rockford for Saturday's game against the Avalanche, was sent back to the IceHogs in order to get under the salary cap.
You want to play (and) battle through, but at the same time injuries happen and it's part of hockey and your head is one thing you’ve got to take care of.
