New York Red Bulls look to avoid trap game against Vancouver Whitecaps

The national television focus won’t be there and there should be fewer fans at Red Bull Arena than those weekend wins over LA and Atlanta.

“Anytime that complacency kicks in or you think you’ve arrived, yeah, you get humbled real quickly in this world and in this game,” Red Bulls coach Chris Armas said.

Already down injured regular starters Bradley Wright-Phillips (groin) and Aaron Long (hamstring), the Red Bulls will also be without Tim Parker, who is serving the one-game suspension after being sent off against Atlanta.

That likely means the paring of Amro Tarek and Sean Nealis in central defense, while Tom Barlow, who scored the lone goal against the Five Stripes, or Brian White should get the nod up front.

“We see a real team commitment to get back to our pride of shutouts and to do all the things that puts you in spots to win games,” Armas said.

United States men's national team head coach Gregg Berhalter has called 40 players to his provisional roster for the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup.
