Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has insisted that they will fight for the La Liga title till the very end despite now trailing FC Barcelona by eight points.
Real Madrid, who are the defending La Liga champions, slumped to a shock 1-0 defeat to RCD Mallorca in their most recent fixture in the Spanish top-flight. Los Blancos’ defeat presented Barcelona with an opportunity to establish an eight-point lead at the top of the La Liga points table when they took on Sevilla.
Barcelona comfortably defeated Sevilla 3-0 to earn all three points from the fixture and go eight points clear of their El Clasico rivals in the race for the La Liga title.
Speaking after the match, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti admitted the defeat hurts a lot in the context of the La Liga title race. Carlo Ancelotti also said that the small details determined the result of the match and that the goal they conceded early in the game and the penalty they missed in the second half really affected them.

Carlo Ancelotti insists Real Madrid are not out of the La Liga title race yet
“It’s a defeat that hurts a lot in this sense, but it was the game we expected. We prepared for a tough, difficult match, with a lot of fouls and interruptions. The small details determined the match. The early goal and the missed penalty really affected us,” Carlo Ancelotti said [via Madrid Universal].
“The match wasn’t bad, in my opinion, but it was an atypical match, with a lot of interruptions. Now we have to think about the Club World Cup, where we are very excited.”
When asked whether the Champions League is more important for Real Madrid now, Carlo Ancelotti insisted they are not yet out of the La Liga title race.
“What is more important is every game we have to play. Now we have to play the Club World Cup, which we want to win, and then we’ll fight for the league until the end. It’s not over yet, there are still a lot of games to go. What happened to us today can happen in every game,” Carlo Ancelotti said.
Meanwhile, the defeat to RCD Mallorca means Real Madrid now have 45 points from 20 matches in the Spanish top flight so far this season. Barcelona, meanwhile, have 53 points from 20 matches.
Real Madrid will face Al-Ahly in the semi-final of the FIFA Club World Cup in their next match.
