Sergio Busquets’ Future in His Own Hands, Says Xavi

FC Barcelona manager Xavi has said that Sergio Busquets’ future is in his own hands and revealed he would be delighted if the Spanish midfielder decided to extend his stay at the Catalan outfit.

Sergio Busquets has entered the final six months of his contract with Barcelona, with his current deal with the Spanish behemoths due to expire at the end of June 2023.

The 34-year-old, who has been playing Barcelona first team since 2008, has already been linked with a move away from the La Liga side at the end of the 22/23 season.

Xavi says they are waiting to see whether Sergio Busquets decides to extend his stay at Barcelona beyond the end of the 22/23 season or not. The Barcelona manager also revealed he would be delighted if his former teammate chose to stay at the club.

Xavi also said Sergio Busquets, who is Barcelona’s club captain, has earned the right to decide his future.

In the end, we all work together and the decision is his. We are waiting to see what he decides. He is a very important person inside and outside, he is the captain, he is part of everything and he has earned the right to decide his future. If he can continue, I’d be delighted,” Xavi said [via Barca Universal].

Sergio Busquets has featured in 26 games across all competitions from Barcelona so far in the 22/23 season. 17 of those appearances have come in La Liga, where Barcelona have so far played 19 matches in the 22/23 season. Busquets started in 15 of those and came off the bench in two games.
