IND VS NZ: “That doesn’t mean that Kohli and Rohit won’t be considered anymore…”- Gavaskar

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma both have been snubbed for the T20I squad which will face New Zealand. But the former Indian Player and Captain, Sunil Gavaskar has backed the new selection committee of the Indian Cricket Team.

There were a lot of criticisms geared towards the new selectors, as soon as the squads were announced for the IND vs NZ series. Mainly for the absence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

The new selection committee members, include: Chetan Sharma, Shiv Sundar Das, Subroto Banerjee, Salil Ankola and Sridharan Sharat.

While the Board have kept their silence on the whole matter. Ex-Indian player, Gavaskar have showed his support towards the Senior Men’s National Selection Committee members.

“The way I see it is that, the next T20 World Cup is in 2024, next year, and the new selection committee that has come wants to give more opportunities to the younger players. That doesn’t mean that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma won’t be considered anymore.”

And if they have an impressive form throughout 2023 then they have to be in the team. The other factor is with the Australia series starting, the selectors might have wanted to rest them for the big contest so that they can make a fresh start against the Aussies and that will benefit India,” Gavaskar said in an interview with India Today.

IND vs NZ T20I series will begin from 27th January (Friday). Post the conclusion of the ODI series, which will commence from tomorrow.
