Liverpool news: According to reliable transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Reds have recently sent scouts to monitor Flamengo midfielder, Joao Gomes.
Gomes has established himself as among the most promising midfielders in Brazil since breaking into the Vultures senior team in 2020. He has played 37 league games for the Brazillian club so far, scoring one goal.
He has helped his club win one league title, along with two Campeonato Cariocas. The 21-year-old midfielder is seen as the future of Brazillian football.
His performances at Maracanã Stadium caught the attention of top clubs across Europe. Apart from the Reds, Manchester United have also shown interest in signing him recently.

Speaking to the media, he said: “Liverpool are a team I’d play for. I have the greatest desire to play. Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream in football.”
The Reds have started the current season poorly, winning just two of their opening seven league games. Jurgen Klopp struggled with his midfield options so far, this season with Thiago, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, Curtis Jones, and Fabio Carvalho all struggled injuries during the early parts of the season.
Klopp tried to address the issue by signing Arthur Melo on loan from Juventus during deadline day. However, the Brazil international is yet to start a competitive game for the Reds. Klopp could look to bring in another midfielder to his squad during the January window, with Pedro among the options.
But the Brazilian has recently signed a new contract at Flamengo, which will keep him at the club until 2027. The Reds will need to pay a massive transfer fee in order to bring him to Anfield.

He played 20 Brasileirão games this term, registering one assist. According to WhoScored, he averaged 3.2 tackles, 0.9 dribbles, and 0.9 interceptions in the league. Apart from that, he has completed 87.3 percent of his attempted passes in the Brazillian top division.

Liverpool is currently eighth in the Premier League table, with nine points from six games. They will next lock horns against Brighton in the league before facing Rangers in the UEFA Champions League on October 5.
