The five-time Ballon d’Or also made his stand clear as he spoke: “I have not come back to be a cheerleader. If you guys want to succeed, then I need you to love this club from the bottom of your hearts.”

He motivated the squad by saying: “You need to eat, sleep and fight for this club. Whether you play or do not play, you need to support your teammates and always give 100 percent for the club.”

There are a few parts of his speech where things have gone the opposite way. Ronaldo has ended up staying at the club. United is doing well by defeating Liverpool and Arsenal in matches, but Ronaldo was not involved in any of them. He is right now having one of the worst seasons in his career.

In his speech, he also told: “The fans will support you if you give your best. I just want to create a winning mentality…” So far this season the winning mentality and the consistency in the performance have returned and fans are loving to see their favourite team back in form. But somewhere Ronaldo is not part of it. He has truly become a “cheerleader” for the club by starting from the bench and encouraging the young players.

New signing Antonio also added his experience with the Portuguese legend as he added: “In just a few days, I’ve learned a lot from him. He has an extraordinary mind and, whenever I talk to him, I take a lot from it.”
