Tags: barcelona

FC Barcelona is a team on song in this transfer window. Barcelona looked like they had no finances for any transfer activity. But as the transfer window opened Barcelona immediately activated its economic levers.

After the activation of economic levers, Barcelona got the much-needed cash injection. After Catalan’s finances were sorted they went hard for signings.

Barcelona managed to sign 5 top quality players. Lewandowski, Raphinha, Jules Kounde, Christensen and Franck Kessie.

In this ongoing summer transfer window, journalist Gerard Romero has played a significant part in covering Barcelona’s activity in the transfer market, most notably by helping to break the Jules Kounde story.

In a new report on Barça’s transfer activities, the renowned Spanish journalist claims the team is seeking to add up to three players before the end of the month.

3 Players Barcelona must sign before the deadline day

Barcelona Prime Target for Left Back Position: Marcus Alonso

1. A Left Back: Marcus Alonso

It is quite an evident fact that Barcelona has struggled in the left-back department. Since Lucas Digne left the club back in 2018, the Catalans have struggled in that position. Barcelona tried players like Cucurella, and Juan Miranda from their academy but they were not successful. Then went in for Junior Firpo but he too failed and was sold. Last season’s situation where critical Jordi Alba was only left back and in his absence, Dest played out in that position.

This season everybody thought the young academy graduate Balde would be back up LB. But now as the season progresses Coach Xavi Hernandez doesn’t seem to trust the youngster and Barcelona is looking for an alternative.

Chelsea Marcus Alonso is the preferred choice. The Spanish International is very versatile. He can play and adapt to different formations. Attacking wise his inputs are equal to Jordi Alba but defensively he is a bit susceptible though. The most important reason for Barcelona to choose Alonso over other possible options is his valuation. Alonso’s current contract at Chelsea is set to expire at the end of this season which brings his price down. Also, Alonso is looking for life in Spain and already has a verbal agreement with the club.

2. A Right Back: Juan Foyth

At Right Back Barcelona looked settled with veteran Dani Alaves and young Sergino Dest. With the start of the new season, the scenario completely changed. Dani Alaves left the club and Sergino Dest was termed surplus to the requirements. According to Xavi Hernandez, Dest isn’t suited to Barcelona’s style of play and hasn’t given him anything.

Xavi sent a clear message to Dest by dropping him from the Matchday 1 squad list. Now it is believed that Barcelona is open to selling American International and is looking for new options.

Till last night Barcelona was linked to various Right Backs in the market. But Gerard Romero again broke the news that Catalan giants have narrowed their target and are going after Juan Foyth.

Juan Foyth is again a versatile player who can play either as a wing back or full back and even right-sided center back in back 3. Foyth started at Tottenham in the Premier League but later joined Villareal in Spain.

Since joining Villareal Foyth has impressed a lot. He soon became a regular in Unai Emery’s line-up. Foyth has a release clause of 42 million but Barcelona is believed to be negotiating for him with an offer of 30 million on the table.

3. A Midfielder: Bernardo Silva

There might be some eyebrows raised seeing Barcelona going after the midfielder after seeing their options in midfield. Barcelona even though has an abundance of midfielders but lacks the particular quality that their coach highlighted. Xavi Hernandez said after the first game, “ We lack an interior midfielder who can play and be decisive in breaking down tight defensive lines”. Bernardo Silva is a perfect fit for that role.

He has played as an interior midfielder in the Manchester City line-up and has been very effective. Silva has shown his quality and was Manchester City’s best player for that campaign. Silva is also very versatile and can also play as a right winger or even wing back at times.

Bernardo Silva is a bit more complicated than the above-mentioned two. Firstly Silva is valued at 100 million by Manchester City. Secondly currently, Barcelona doesn’t have the required finances to pull this deal off. Barcelona will be heavily dependent on the Frenkie De Jong sale.

The Dutchmen were reported to leave Nou Camp for Old Trafford but that deal fell through. Current Chelsea seems to be interested but nothing concrete has happened. Bernardo Silva will be utterly dependent on if Barcelona can manage finances by selling a few players before the deadline day.
