10th day of the 2022 Commonwealth Games live updates: In Birmingham, boxer Nikhat Zareen wins India’s 17th gold medal

At the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Nikhat Zareen defeated Carly McNaul 5-0 to win the gold medal. Boxing gold for India was won earlier in the day on Day 10 by Amit Panghal and Nitu Ghang.

Panghal won his second CWG medal after taking silver in the previous competition in Gold Coast. In the women’s 48 kg final, Ghanghas outsmarted Demie-Jade of England to take gold.

In the meantime, the Indian women’s hockey team beat New Zealand to win bronze, ending their 16-year medal drought at the CWG.

Eldhose Paul and Abdullah Aboobacker of India won gold and silver, respectively, creating history in the men’s triple jump. Sandeep Kumar, men’s 10 km race walk bronze medalist, and women’s javelin bronze medalist, Annu Rani.

By defeating Englishwoman Savannah Stubley 5-0, Zareen advanced to the final. She had been selected as the winner by all three judges.

She had also triumphed by the same margin in her matches against Helena Bagao and Helan Jones in the round of 16 and quarterfinal rounds, respectively.

India has already won three gold medals

India has already won three gold medals in the sport of boxing today. Nitu Ghanghas (women’s 48 kg) and Amit Panghal (men’s 51 kg) had won gold earlier in the day to start an incredible Commonwealth Games boxing run for India.

On June 14, 1996, Nikhat Zareen was born in Nizamabad, Telangana, to sports fanatics Md. Jameel Ahmed and Parveen Sultana.

Number three among her sisters. Her father and Uncle Shamsuddin, her boxing trainer, introduced her to the sport.

Nikhat Zareen began her training

Zareen began her training when she was thirteen years old. Later, I.V. Rao, a recipient of the Dronacharya Award, gave Zareen instruction at the Sports Authority of India in Vishakapatnam.

Because of her commitment and ambition, she was able to accomplish her first victory in the boxing world. She won the top spot at the national sub-junior meet in Erode at the age of 14.
