Manchester United News: Red Devils’ priorities lie away from Erik ten Hag’s desperate search for big-money signings

Manchester United News: Although the Red Devils are in the middle of a summer re-shuffle in which they hope to sign five new players, their future may depend on a different kind of deal.

Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani, Nemanja Matic, and Juan Mata have left the club. Those who remain at the club, are lacking in confidence following a disastrous season. This is the reason why Erik ten Hag is desperate to sign reinforcements during the summer transfer window.

It is obvious that Ten Hag needs a successful transfer window if he wants to right the slowly sinking ship that has gone five seasons without winning a trophy.

United has made about £120 million available to their new manager. Ten Hag wants two central midfielders, a centre-back, a striker, and a full-back. Ten Hag has given Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong top priority. He also approved a contract offer for Christian Eriksen and wants to sign Ajax winger Antony.

There will be many twists and turns in United’s attempts to strengthen their team with 69 days left before the summer transfer market ends. These are the short-term issues, but in the next weeks, another longer-term strategy decision may be much more significant and influential at the club.

At United, there has recently been a lot of activity behind the scenes. Richard Arnold has taken over as CEO in place of the departing Ed Woodward. With Darren Fletcher as his deputy, football director John Murtough has more authority.

Former Liverpool transfer chief Michael Edwards is one of those being considered as a prospective sports director. Thus it appears the team may be about to make another huge move.

At the end of the season, Edwards handed the reins over to his successor Julian Ward at Liverpool, ending an 11-year career there.

The appeal is clear to see. The former Tottenham employee advanced up Liverpool’s ranks, and his use of analytics in hiring influenced the team’s recent success.

The excellent and lengthy list of his successful moves includes Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Fabinho, Andy Robertson, Sadio Mane, and Diogo Jota.

United trying to land Marina?

The club must accept the sporting director structure whether or if United beat Chelsea, who are also interested in Edwards as a result of director Marina Granovskaia’s departure.

United has been run in a disorganized manner for a number of years. The club needs to modernize. Sporting directors are becoming more and more popular.

The club is still paying for the misguided Woodward years. They need someone in charge of the club’s overall strategy and direction at the top of the power structure.

Fans didn’t need to be reminded of the transfer market’s general chaos, but they were last week when Arnold spoke to them in an open and sincere manner in a Cheshire pub.
