BAN VS WI: West Indies have included three new faces in their 12-man squad in the form of Devon Thomas, Gudakesh Motie and Anderson Phillip for the first Test against Bangladesh starting on 16th June 2022.
Kraigg Brathwaite will lead the side where Jermaine Blackwood has been appointed vice-captain of the squad. The squad has introduced three new names in the team, but it also called Raymon Reifer back into the test sides.
BAN VS WI: Reifer will make a comeback to the team in five years
In 2017, Raymon Reifer played their last time for the West Indies. Selecting three uncapped players in the squad would be a difficult call for the selection committee, but on this Lead selector, Dr. Desmond Haynes states, “Devon Thomas has been knocking on the door for quite some time.
He has done exceptionally well in our franchise cricket system. We consider this an excellent opportunity to give him a go. You would notice that Raymon Reifer is also in the squad.
He is another person that has done impressively well in the four-day competition and against England (earlier this year).
“So again, we are giving opportunities to guys who are performing. We think Gudakesh Motie is also bowling well, and we think it will be a good opportunity for him to be involved.”
Former captain Jason Holder has been rested from the Test matches against Bangladesh. It will be in Antigua from June 16-20 and Jamaica from June 24-28. When asked about the importance of the World Test Championship.
He said, “We are looking to pick up World Test Championship points against Bangladesh, which will be very important. It would be good to use our home advantage to win both Test matches and collect those points.”
Bangladesh has to play three T20s and many ODIs on the Caribbean tour. The T20 matches will be held in Dominica on July 2 and 3 and in Guyana on 7th July. The three One Day Internationals will occur in Guyana on July 10, 13 and 16.
Kemar Roach, the West Indies’ spearhead bowling unit’s experienced fast bowler, is a doubt for the first Test. He will have a fitness test as he recovers from an injury sustained while playing for Surrey in the English County Championship.
