Tottenham Hotspur News: Spurs announce 13 players are leaving the club as Antonio Conte turns down transfer

Tottenham Hotspur News: Spurs manager Antonio Conte has rejected down a permanent deal for loanee Pierluigi Gollini, who is one of 13 players expected to leave the club this summer.

The goalkeeper, 27, will return to his parent club Atalanta after making 11 appearances for Spurs and serving as Hugo Lloris’ deputy for the entire season. Tottenham could have made Gollini’s stay permanent for around £13 million.

In a statement, the club said, “We congratulate Pierluigi for his service and wish him well in the future. After their contracts expired, J’Neil Bennett, Kacper Kurylowicz, Dermi Lusala, Thimothee Lo-Tutala, Josh Oluwayemi, Tobi Omole, and Isak Solberg all left the Development Squad.

“Following the completion of their scholarships, under-18s players Jez Davies, Jordan Hackett, Khalon Haysman, Renaldo Torraj, and Oliver Turner have also left. We wish them all the best in their future endeavours.”

Gollini made his final Spurs appearance in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Chelsea, and he had a dreadful night.

Despite the fact that the former Aston Villa goalkeeper did not play in the first leg, in which Conte’s team was trounced 2-0, his error in second leg allowed Antonio Rudiger to score the lone goal, putting Tottenham out of the competition.

On the DAZN Talks podcast, Gollini stated of his time in north London, “It’s logical that I was hoping to play a bit more. However, I understood from the start that I’d be playing in the cups while Lloris would be playing in the league.”

“We didn’t play because we had nine cases of Covid, and they wouldn’t allow us postpone the game.”

“Carabao? In the semi-final against Chelsea and then in the FA Cup final, the coach decided not to do any turnovers.”

“I had the opportunity to train with Lloris and play 11 games with him. Even if you don’t play, you can progress. However, some things can only be learned on the field, such as how to learn from your mistakes.”

If you have the right perspective, even viewing certain scenarios might teach you something. Football is a fantastic example of this, as are other scenarios. I’ve always felt that you should make the best of the situation you find yourself in.”

“You always waste time if you have the intention of doing so. Where do I see myself in the future? I’ll tell you the truth: I’d stay at Tottenham if I had the option. I’m having a great time here, and I’m a big fan of this group and this club.”
